Hi, guys.

Long story short:

I woke up this morning and was thinking random thinkings in my head when I started thinking about our petition, and realised that I couldn't remember where I'd put my copy of the passport-sized photo that they ask for. I've been looking everywhere for it for the last hour or so but cannot for the life of me remember what I did with it (I put it in a 'safe' place, it's always the way). The company I got it taken with doesn't keep copies, so I can't get another one printed.

I just wanted to know, if worst does come to worst and I have lost it, how will this affect our petition when it comes to my interview at the embassy?

I mean, I know it's 'just' a photo, but I'm seriously stressing that it's going to go bad ways. :(

Thanks in advance.

I don't think the clerical staff that get you ready for the main interview will accept your forms and documents until you have a passport taken. It's very important.

I'm confused about something. Are you saying you didn't submit a photo with your petition? Or that you dont have the correct sized passport photo for the interview?

Sorry for confusion.

We have submitted the petition, with passport photo of me included.

I may have lost MY copy of my passport photo.

I need to know what to do if I have lost it, like will they accept a newer photo at my interview, will I have to get another set taken and send the new photo to them while they're processing the petition, etc.

I'm really stressing out about this. :(

Karen, Trev, whichever one of you it is, I love you SO EFFING MUCH.

A lot of stuff has been going wrong for us recently: last time I visited we missed my flight back because of weather, and again the next day because of traffic & the airline being arses for the fact that we were like 5 minutes late, then there's been drama with insurance people, then she's under stress because of the work she's doing, i'm under stress because i was made redundant just before the first time I visited her, we're both poor... lol etc etc

So I'm stressing over every little thing, as you can imagine, but this seemed a legit thing to stress over, like money and time don't matter all that much in the grand scheme of things, I've waited years for this and she's worth it, it's just I wouldn't be able to cope with putting her under any more stress than she already is.

So, yeah, your reply is very much appreciated. :)

Thank you. <3

PS- on the topic of being made redundant, do we have to let them know that or does it just come down to "do you have a job or not, yes/no?" at the interview stage. We have the evidence of support, two people infact, so that wouldn't be too bad. Just thought I'd ask.

TYVM :)

I don't think that is something they need to know at this stage, as long as you have a co-sponser you should be fine. Anyone else know for sure? I think if you aren't the primary sponser, then it shouldn't affect anything, but don't completely go on my answer!

P.S Please update your timeline :)

If you are the beneficiary, it won't matter if you have a job or not at the visa interview. What you earn doesn't matter, it's what the USC earns that counts.

If you are the USC, then yes, it will matter and you are going to need a co-sponsor.

I'm going to end up taking new photos to my interview too - the first set I got were the wrong size (hoping we don't get an RFE for that, seems like it slips through the cracks sometimes) so I'll need a new set that are the right size, plus I ended up using the rest of the photos from my first set to apply for a new passport since mine expired.

July 2007 - met Jesse at a beach party held by mutual friends in Long Island, NY

May 2008 - J-1 visa expired, had to move back to Australia

July 2008-September 2008 - lived with Jesse for three months in Staten Island, NY

March 2009 - Jesse comes to Australia for 3 weeks

April 2009 - Engaged!

05/20/09 - I-129F petition mailed in

05/22/09 - NOA1!

05/25/09 - touch

09/09/09 - NOA2!

10/01/09 - due to fiance's illness, we are abandoning pursuit of K-1 at this point. Packet 3 received from consulate but won't be returned.

I don't want to cause any unnecessary worry, as I know rules and standards can vary from one Embassy to another, but just make sure they accept co-sponsors at the Embassy in the UK where you'll attend your interview. My experience was at the US Embassy in Bangkok, where I suspect they're a bit more strict than in the UK, but I was in a similar situation of not meeting the income requirement to bringing my wife here and was relying on a co-sponsor. When my fiancee went to her interview, though, she was suddenly told they simply did not accept co-sponsors. Through the grace of God and a little luck, things worked out in the end, but I would hate for anyone else to have to go through such a gut wrenching experience. So double check on whether co-sponsors are accepted there before showing up to the interview. There are plenty of people in this forum from the UK who can probably tell you the answer, and if not, you can always email the Embassy in the UK to ask.

Having said all that, I think you will probably be fine. I think it's mainly a policy that started in the Philippines and spread to some other parts of Asia. But do your homework ;) .

UK do accept co-sponsors. I didn't personally have a co-sponsor but a number of people on the UK interview thread have.

Confirm - you do NOT need the same photo. Another photo is just fine, however, for your interview you will need to submit american sized passport photos.

If you are the beneficiary and have been made redundant this is inconsequential. You'd hit problems if the american petitioner lost their job and couldn't find a co-sponsor.

PS: Please fill in your timeline. This assists other Visa Journey members with predicting when their own petitions may be approved.

Good luck.....it's a long journey, try not to stress or your body will eat your own stomach!!!!

Ellie-and-David gave you great answers.

The US embassy in the UK is not as strict as a lot of other ones, have a look in the UK section of teh regional forums, they will help you with the embassy, with the medical, bringing any pets and shipping your stuff.

As for the job thing they will ask you what you do for a living, (it wont effect your application) but they will ask they asked me what college I go to, what I study etc etc;.

Sounds like you are good to go!. Goodluck and I wish you a speedy RFE'less journey :)

You won't GET to the embassy without the photo. If you did not include it, they will send you an RFE and your case will be delayed a few weeks. Go get more passport photos now, you will need LOTS of them for this process. Get 12 or so. You will be ready if you get an RFE.
