Hi guys and gals..

We got our greencard and we moved to a new place.Do we really have to file ar-11?The previous address is a permanent one.We all have our uscis address listed on my mother in laws home address..Just wondering if it is okay to leave it that way considering its a more permanent one.We are just renting an apartment right now.Can we leave the address as it is until we find a more permanent dwelling place here in the state?

Thanks

Yes it is a law. You should within 10 days upon moving.

since your mom in law's home address is a permanent one and you guys can still be contactable at this address, i would think that you dont have to change your address yet. once u found a home that u will stay on more permanently, u can file. (that's what we did anyways, and no problem for getting the mails.)

The law says you have 10 days to notify USCIS of your move. You file an AR-11 and your husband files an I-865. Remember you will need to provide evidence of 2 years of marriage, including addresses lived in when you Remove Conditions. so yes, you have to notify USCIS of your move. It svcks, but it's the law.

Ahhh, ok, i think it is better that the OP notify USCIS.. We dont want any problem when we remove conditions... thanks

Changing address is nothing complicated, well it might get only if you have a pending application, because they keep sending stuff to the old address for some freaky reason.

You can file AR-11 online. Just make sure you print a copy as a proof and have a confirmation number. Your husband cannot file I-865 online, but once he sends the paper version, he should got a NOA a few days later confirming the change. As my hubby says, change of address was one of the easiest things we did with USCIS.

And always keep copies of it-- and send through registered mail.

He needs to file an I-865 - sponsor's change of address form.

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

I-865 cannot be done online.

Anybody who has ever filed I-864, must file I-865 when he/she changes the address, if I-864 is still in force. US citizens are not required to file AR-11 though.

Maybe the solution could be that you leave your mother-in-law's address as the mailing address? Check out I-865, and you will see that new home address and mailing address may be different. Also, when you file AR-11 online, they will ask if there is a pending case. What happened to me is that they still sent my GC to the old address (mother-in-law as well), although I filed AR-11 (my case was not "pending" since I received decision) and spent 20 minutes on the phone dictating my new address and requesting that they send the card there.

Luckily, mom-in-law loves me and gave me my card back.
