People are getting scared to fly on Airbus now, but dunno, they have a really good safety record, the A330 that crashed from Air France, was the first A330 ever to have such an accident, the A340 never had one, etc.

Yes - everything is safe, till it crashes.

Planes crash. Some more than others. With the amount that are in the air, your still safer flying than driving/walking down a road.

Of course, however, if your one of that small percentage that actually crashes in a plane, that is small comfort...

But there's been a wave of paranoia around now, against Airbus planes. Following comments on a brazilian paper about the AF 477 and now this crash, I keep seeing people say "That's why I don't fly Airbus" which makes me wonder, do people actually call the airline and say they wanna fly for A to B but it has to be in a Boeing? Or do they research which company has more boeings than airbuses in their fleet? Sounds very funny to me as these comments were made by Brazilians and the biggest airline in Brazil, TAM, pretty much only flies Airbus.

Ah, but in a car you have control of your own wheel but not of the tons of others driving with you, and even if you're a good driver there are those times where the stupidity of others makes it inevitable for you to avoid a crash.

I'll take those chances over plummeting to death any time.

I hear ya. I'm not in love with flying either, but I'm not scared and I do live in an island and my family does live very far away in a different country. Not much of a choice.

To be sure

I was surprised people kept flying 737's after they found that fault with the rudder that would cause it to spin into the ground.

Or the icing issue with the AVTR's.

Or that they are finding out that airlines are paying peanuts for people that just passed flight school to fly commercial jets....

I would prefer to fly my own plane (in my control) than fly with someone else in the cockpit.

But really - I rather stay home with Umit than fly :)

I don't get that whole "I ain't getting on an Airbus plane" hysteria. Or the argument that these planes are somehow less safe than a Boeing. Nonsense.

Exactly. I don't care what equipment I'll be flying on, what I look for is companies with good service and that are known for proper and timely maintenance of their planes, and then trivial things like good seat configuration.

Makes me wanna ask "so you rather fly a company that operates only with boeings that go through little to no maintenance or one with only airbuses that are kept in tip top shape?". Dumbazzes.

Comfort wise you feel less turbulence in Airbus or so I've read in a few places.

I'm flying in August with United and TAM. United operates Boeing on international flights and then TAM is pretty much full Airbus on all their routes.

I just a headline somewhere that a 5 yr. old has been rescued from the crash. Sorry...can't find the article now.

Brazilian papers are now saying it's a 14 year old girl (they do say it was first said it was a 5 year old boy).

Yep, I'd take a flight on a Lufthansa Airbus over an Air China Boeing every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
