My $$ is definitely going to be going towards the commissary on base when I get to NE! But less of it than I would fork over at Walmart or a local grocery store! Every time I have been in the commissary I am like a kid in a candy store! Most items are HALF the price than at local grocery store, some items remain the same, but it still a deal when you can spend almost 40 bucks less on your grocery bill! :D

I will probably still shop at Walmart and Target, but not for groceries, maybe canned items, but thats probably it. I was shocked to see that WalMart sold liquor! Where I am in Canada they don't!

Ooooh! I am looking so forward to that. Shopping on base, and being able to buy cheap groceries! I already went shopping on base once. I nearly died. I loved the prices. And now I'm stuck back here. :'( I do enjoy target though >D

Back on topic, sort of, I got 5 bucks, from a fellow today, and written on it seemed to be...a grocery list. :s

God I miss my country.

Only liquor stores in Canada have license. But everywhere in the US..it's free game!! Well, not free..you have to pay for it. I think you can even buy it in the dollar stores! LOL.

Not all states are that free with their liquor. We have liquor stores in New Jersey, but you aren't allowed to sell booze in grocery stores and definetely not placesz like Walmart. Many states have different laws pertaining to the sale of alcohol so it's not all free game.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Cool! That's interesting to know.

Course, I'm not exactly a "state" travereller...But everywhere I've been so far, west side, and east side, I noticed it the grocery stores, and gas stations etc. It is quite a shock at first.

I belive each state has their own liquor board authority. One just can't decide they want to sell alcohol! Here in VA, one can only buy the hard stuff at a State run store. Beer and wine seems to be everywhere, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Well, I don't know if you guys know, but they passed a law a month ago or so, which restricts a business from carrying cigarettes, if there is a pharmacy in the same building. o_o

I had to laugh at the CVS here the other night. While we were waiting in line I see all the cigarettes behind the counter and made a comment to my husband. I don't think he ever thought about it before. lol

You must be in a progressive area, Ber & Ter.

Kri, BC banned showing all cigarettes in any store this year. Have to be behind locked cabinets at all times.

I'm from Ontario..... they were banned to covered cabinets quite a while back there. I think I may have missed something (lol) but I was referring to the CVS drugstore here in Fla having them right behind the counter. (I'm pretty sure I've lost something in the translation. )

I'm from Calgary actually, what happens is, any store with a pharmacy cannot sell cigarettes, tabacco or anything of the sort. And if you were to go into a convinent store, all the cigarettes are covered up by shelves but they're still labeled so anyone could read them. o_o

I was pretty excited to see the grocery stores in Colorado sold Mike's Hard Lemonade... until I read the bottle. 3%? I don't think so! So, I guess they can sell it here in grocery stores, but it has to be below a certain alcohol content... at 3% whats the point? I'm Canadian, do 11% or I don't do it at all!

But, money tracking sure is fun! They should stamp more bills.
