^^ I don't even think it needs to be certified. On the I-485 instructions it just says "a copy of the marriage certificate" - we just provided a really good color photocopy. If they give me an RFE I'll go get one, but I was under the impression that it could just be a really good copy.

This is probably a stupid question, but your I-94 number... is that the "departure number"? There is no other number on here...

I think that's what I used. I figured I was giving them the copy of it so if it was wrong, they could find it for themselves, haha. Hope that doesn't backfire on me!

I just send my AOS today. Took me a good week to put it all together and check it over a few times before sending. Hopefully I didn't miss anything. I hope it processes fast, although with summer vacation starting I'm not holding my breath! I just want to be able to work by October and go home for Thanksgiving.... here's hoping!!

Sapphire - If you just sent it, you will have the AP and EAD by August I bet. They are SUPER speedy on these! I was just issued my EAD so Im waiting for it in the mail, and the AP I got on Friday. So, I would be amazed if it took longer than September to have everything. :) The trick is, as soon as you get your biometrics appt letter, go get them done. You don't have to wait for the actual appt date and I think that is what sped me up.

Even if you do wait for the date, it doesn't hold it up too much but you could speed it up a couple days :) I had to just because of hubby's work schedule, but my AOS was received May 1st, biometrics June 2nd, I recieved my AP on the 20th and my EAD yesterday :) they are going quickly, I am sure you will be able to work by the end of the summer :)

Really, you didn't wait for your appointment date? There is a huge sign on the Biometrics place right by me that says "Only those with an appointment for the current date allowed to enter" or something along those lines. The place is like 2 blocks away from me, in fact I walk by to get to the grocery store!

Hmmm....well I guess it depends on the office. I risked it and went. What was the worst that could happen? They would just send me back and I'd wait. But, hmmm looks like you will have to wait. As you can see from Jenni and Bo..it still doesn't take too long! :)

Yes, it's on the top left-hand side: I-94 pic

Yes, it's just a copy of a certified marriage certificate.

I just took my letter and dropped into the office and explained my situation to them. (I was not going to be available on the date they gave me.) They took me right then and there, however, they made me go back home to bring them a copy of my marriage certificate. icon2.gif It probably has a lot to do with how busy they are.

It won't speed things up. The majority of the wait has to do with the namecheck.

Awesome, thanks! I thought the space underneath where you could write something in is where the number was supposed to be and someone forgot to give me one! And its good to know you don't need a certified copy of the marriage certificate, that will save us some time and money.

I wouldn't say 100% you don't need a certified copy. I read on the instructions I printed out in December that it had to be a certified copy, maybe it changed since then. I dunno, but it was very clear when I did it that it had to be certified. Maybe they don't care so much and won't RFE if it's not certified, but I didn't want to take that chance

No, hasn't changed. Here's the exact wording on Page 5 of the I-485 instructions:

"a copy of your marriage certificate"

The way i see it they want to see my certified stuff they can ask for an interview .. or they can pony up the cost to get extras .. not like we don't bend over backwards enough sending them the same info over and over and over again .. but i sent them a copy

Yeah that's the exact spot I was referring to. It doesn't say certified anywhere on the instructions. But, in the end it definitely doesn't hurt and probably makes things a bit quicker because they can't question the copies.

I agree, if they have anything in question, they can just ask for an interview. That was my thoughts as well.

Humm, this is a very interesting question. Has anyone not sent a certified copy and recieved an RFE? The instructions seem to indicate you don't need one, but the guides on VJ seem to indicate otherwise...

 It was bugging me as to where I saw that I needed a certified copy, and yes it was the guides on VJ. It's kind of annoying if the guides are wrong, as I went out of my way to get a certified copy and paid extra. But, looks like I didn't need to send one in. I should have paid more attention to USCIS instructions and not VJ guides. Oh well, all's well that ends well!

Huggles I would go with what USCIS states which is a copy, they do not mention certified. That's what I would have done if I paid attention

OHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I was wondering where people were getting the notion that it had to be certified!

Yeah. I read the VJ guides but then I go straight to the USCIS site. I've seen too many people get burned by that. icon2.gif
