Hi there,

I applied for removal of conditions a few months ago, and I received the approval letter last week. I also received NOA1 with 1 year extension around 4 weeks after applying.

We are leaving for our European vacation in 7 days.

My question is: Am I safe to travel with my NOA although I received the approval letter or should I schedule an appointment with USCIS to get my passport stamped?

Thanks!

I'm sure you're ok with the approval letter BUT, it's not a bad idea to get the stamp just in case you lose the letter.

You're fine with the extension letter. It is unlikely that USCIS will give you the stamp if you already have the letter unless you can provide some pretty convincing evidence that the letter is not acceptable.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

If your extension letter is expired, you have an approval letter but no 10-year greencard yet, will the USCIS give you a passport stamp or will they likely argue that the approval letter is sufficient?

I'm not quite in that position yet but it's approaching and I want to travel to Canada.

Thanks Obiwan (aka Kathryn41).

Hi Vox,

Yes, the approval letter and the NOA is sufficient enough for travel.

I have travelled before (to Canada) with both pieces of paper, before my actual physical 10yr green card arrived.

However, I was questioned further and delayed because of it...

The border guards were somewhat clueless about those pieces of paper...

So I opted to get the I-551 stamp as well...and yet I was still questioned...

The border guards were somewhat clueless about the I-551 stamp....

Nevertheless, the bottom line: No letter, paper, stamp, etc. can really be better than an actual plastic card....

But....you can always get an I-551 stamp, just in case you get questioned about the papers. "Better safe than sorry", right?

Besides, you paid $545 for something...So why not get another "I-551 stamp souvenir" while you are still waiting for the actual card....

Hope this helps. Good luck with the rest of your travels and with your immigration journey too.
