Is it a lot of trouble for the wife to change her name after you get married?

Won't that confuse immigration and what about her passport, that will have to be changed, but doesn't she need that while dealing with all this other stuff

I'm worried that it's too complicated.

No. My Husband changed his name as well and he is the Non-USC. When we applied for the marriage license we change our names. So once we had the Certificate we were on our way. Then we applied for his SSN with the married name. Once you apply for AOS you use the married name as well. We have all our NOA's with his new name. So far it does not seem complicated. Good Luck!!

I don't think so. After we got married i use my married name in all my documents and even got a new passport in my married name .Why would it confuse the immigration if you can show proof of marriage.

NO not a problem at all. Put down married name on the certificate. Then get SSN with married name. Apply AOS with married (but also include previous names used). When your wife need to travel abroad, make sure she brings a copy of her marriage certificate. That will be evidence of her name change.

This is great news. I keep hearing how we shouldn't apply for SSN with married name and shouldn't do the AOS with married name. Not sure why though. I even heard you cant get an SSN once you change your name in marriage until you get your green card. So many mixed stories.

How long on average does it take to get your marriage certificate? I know there's a special way to speed it up but not sure how exactly.
