Would you do it for the 'good' of your company?

Author: By Alan Jones, Press Association

Chief executive Willie Walsh, who has already announced he will not draw his salary in July, announced that staff will be able to opt for one-week blocks of unpaid leave or unpaid work, with salary deductions spread over three to six months.

BA said: "This will help minimise the financial impact on individuals, while helping to immediately save cash for the business.

"The new unpaid work option means people can contribute to the cash-saving effort by coming to work while effectively volunteering for a small cut in base pay."

Mr Walsh said: "I am looking for every single part of the company to take part in some way in this cash-effective way of helping the company's survival plan. It really counts."

A spokesman for Unite said: "Willie Walsh can afford to work a month for free. Our members can't."

How far would you go to stay in employment? I have to say, I find it odd to say the least :)

My mother took furlough at her job. The motivation was not "the good of the company", however. If you're not relying on the income and want some extra vacation time, I'd say why not?

ETA: Oh woops, I didn't read it properly. Unpaid WORK? Hell no!

if i could afford it--meaning, provide for the necessities of my family--and if i truly thought that the company cared about me as a team member and had all its employees' best interests at heart, i would definitely do what i could to help out. i would especially look at the option of unpaid leave, if it meant i could spend more time with my family, and again, if we could afford it.

I think that's more probable with a small family company though. In those circumstances it would be reasonably easy to tell just how badly the cash flow was required, how long it would last, if you were likely to gain some compensation for your loyalty down the line. With an international company like BA? Hard to justify, in my opinion. Perhaps the management team might be asked to consider such a move but not the actual worker bees, the cabin crews, pilots, check in staff etc.

Depends on the company.

If they were taking care of buisness prior to this mess, then I would help out.

But if they were not, good bye...

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.
