Vandalism?

Oh dear.

I was reading in the paper yesterday that a 66 year old man (his name got published too) was hanging out in a public park and asked a plainclothes detective (male) if he wanted to have sex with him. The old man got arrested for being a public nuisance. Since when did it become illegal to try to get laid? There was no mention in the article of money or indecent exposure or even stalking-type behavior.

Why is it an arrest-worthy offence though?

Do people think that every crime necessitates being handcuffed in the back of a police car and taken to jail?

It just isn't the case.

Since when did being 'funny/cute' make vandalism less of a crime?

Is it a crime worthy of "arrest" though?

As opposed to being given a citation for a fine and court appearance?

If it is against the law, then yes it is worth an arrest.

But that's circular reasoning - if you are caught speeding or with a brake light out, you don't get arrested for it. You get a ticket.

If you're speeding in a stolen car, you get arrested.

The kid stole property.

Yeah but there's a difference between stealing a car and stealing a newspaper.

There is.

We don't know what the impact was of the missing construction barrels. Maybe he held up work, wasting valuable taxpayer dollars while the labor force idled.

how idiotic...does the raleigh police not have any real criminals to arrest?

How bout me coming on over to your house and ripping the siding off your house to build stick men?

Where's that apple/orange picture. So apt.

Get back to work Marc. Oh, I forgot, you can't. My bad.

I expect your wife is a bit fed up having you around all day Marc. Why don't you go out for a walk? Might calm the nerves.

Dunno AJ - getting arrested for stealing the equivalent of traffic cones seems way OTT to me.

It might be, unless he's a repeat offender of some kind.

It's true there is no back ground information on this story. At face value though, this is not a good use of police resources.
