Hi all -

Just found this board with the help of another VJ'er, and figured I'd introduce myself. My name is Shelby, and I live in Vermont, USA. My fiance is Mark, and he's living in Huddersfield, UK. We've just sent in all the forms to the embassy in London a week ago, and we're now nervously trying to figure out what's next! :)

I emailed the Embassy earlier today to check that they got our package, and got a reply back that the email had been deleted without being read and that I wouldn't be able to get any info via email. My main question is, is there a way to check and make sure they got everything? Is there a number I can call or something? I'm sorry if I'm asking questions people have answered 100 times...we're new to this!

Also - Mark was hoping to be able to schedule his medical for the same day as his interview so as not to have to pay to get down to London and back twice. Is this advisable, or is it better to do it earlier and just have it done with? Can anyone give us any advice there?

Thanks everyone!

Best,

Shelby

Hi and welcome.

The best way to know if somebody receives your submissions during this whole process is to send it with some kind of tracking or recorded delivery. So I guess you sent all the DS forms and the checklist. Give them a couple of weeks to log in your case. Then you can call Dept of State (DOS) and see if they have record of it being on the radar in London. Or you can call the Embassy line that costs money and ask. Best just to give them some time because it's not a super fast turnaround service. If you put a date of travel and date of wedding on your checklist, and it's soon, then you will be scheduled quicker. London seems to order their interviews and working on cases based on who needs it fastest (as indicated on your checklist.)

Yes, you can have a medical the same day as the interview. Your interview results will be pending receiving the medical info 3-4 days later, or longer if a weekend pops in there. It means there's a little extra time before you get the visa in hand. A suggestion is for Mark to be getting his immunization records from his personal doctor now and trying to get anything missing of the required shots done by NHS. Most men end up needing MMR and Tdap or Td. NHS doesnt have to do it free, but many do. If he has all shots complete in the UK, it is possible to send the immunization record he will be given at Knightsbridge doctors to meet the medical requirements for AOS once in the US. He won't have to do an I-693 or bother with a Civil Surgeon. We did that, Talyss did it, and it we've already received GCs. That's just a suggestion that can save you time and money down the road.

like nich said it can be done, i have my medical the week before my interview and i just found return coach tickets to London for £12 on www.nationalexpress.com , it shouldn't be to much of a price difference for Mark as i'm not to far from Hudderfield myself

Hello Shelby,

we were assigned an interview date 14 days after packet 3 was received by the US Embassy in London. You should give it about two/three weeks before you start worrying about being assigned an interview date, don't worry.

Good luck

Visa Journey completed, but we are still here to provide support! :)

No way! Where in VT, if you don't mind my asking? I'm right on border with NH, about an hour and a half southeast of Burlington. :)

The winters ARE hard (and expensive nowadays!), but I don't think I'd trade it for anywhere else...at least, not yet. Maybe in another 20-30 years I'll be singing a different tune.
