I heard an interesting radio program from the UK, ostensibly about the affect the 'war on drugs' has had over the past 10 years or so in the US and one interesting conclusion (and this was from a US journalist) was that the war on drugs has had a terrible effect on policing. The suggestion is that if one spends all day simply doing very simple police work (stop, search pockets for drugs, arrest repeat) there is little time left for what is traditionally seen as proper in depth investigative police work. The result, a police force that has little to no experience in anything other than these rather mindless and pointless procedures and also a police force that ends up engaging in inappropriate behaviours.

I have no idea how widespread or true this is, but it was certainly interesting.

Kriss sakes

All over a fricken speeding ticket. Egos at work.

You see more and more confortations escalate from these petty traffic stops.

I think there could be a better way to deal with reasonable traffic tickets or stops. Most people whom are stopped like this probally never have broken the law in their life. They cant believe it is happening in their mind and then things escalate.

With traffic stops like these i think they could find a better system.

The woman got what she deserved. She was guilty of the infraction as well as several more. She was intentinally being provocative and refusing to follow the officers directions. The only reason there is any outrage is because she's an oldster.

I don't think anyone breaking traffic laws should be tazered. If they threaten the security of the police that's a different matter of course, but getting lippy doesn't deserve a short, sharp shock.

Nope. It's the law. You cannot discriminate against age.

Nope?? Whats the law? Does not signing speeding ticket require tasing or told to get out of your vehicle? I dont know? What is the law?

He had no probable cause to take this any further than a ticket and be on your way.

The po-po are still dicks to us though. Not much has changed except now they have counsel telling them how to do it right.

You shouldn't break the law then :P

You don't have to break the law for those old wasted ex-jocks to be dicks to people who are doing better than they are.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

What about a very old man?

I don't know about in the US, but in the UK you have to have a medical every year to establish your fitness to drive once you reach a certain age - which I believe is 65.
