Hi,

first, apologies, if this has been answered before, but I couldn't find a topic that exactly addressed my question.

I've received my EAD (valid for 1 year) last week and have promptly been let go by my Irish employer (I was here on a H1 in lieu of H1B visa). I am married to a US citizen since February this year and the green card process is underway, although I haven't received it yet.

My question is: Can I work either full-time or as a contractor using just my EAD card? I was under the impression I needed a SSN. If so, can I now apply for one? How long does that normally take?

Thank you much in advance for any info/advice you might have!

Thanks. I just went with my EAD and Passport this morning and it turns out I can re-use the number I was issued 10 years ago, when I was on an internship in the US. So, I have a number, they are just doing a check of the documents now, which will take the aforementioned few weeks.

Thanks!

Yup - Social Security number is issued for the life of the individual - for that had one before and perhaps misplaced their card, they can simply apply for a lost/replacement card.
