Hey ya'll,

Quick question. I am visiting my fiance in the UK in a couple weekes and my stay will be for a month. When the POE officer asks me who I am visiting, should I go ahead and say my fiance? And if so, should I explain that we applied for a K-1 visa for the states? Also, do I need to bring proof that I will be returning to the states like my fiance would if he came to visit me?? We have not received our NOA2 yet, so I do not think they would have us on record in the UK yet.

Any thoughts.

Bring ties to your home country just as your fiance would if he were visiting you. Again its the intent to emigrate that's under review - and you don't WANT to do that, so its a good idea to have proof of that. Anything frm your employer stating you have to return by such n such date, or mortgage agreement is good..copy of NOA1, not a bad idea, shows your fiance has intent to emigrate to the US, not the other way around..

Of course they may not even ask you much past 'vacation or business'? at POE.

My fiance is planning on visiting me in less than a month. Im gonna tell her to bring the NOA1 and things like that to show she is going to return. Also we have found that keeping the visit well under the 90 day limit on the visa is a good idea.

One final point, make sure that you have some cash with you, enough for a couple days stay and a credit/debit card.

Yes Jennifer no problem. You can visit your fiance in the UK. The problem would be if he tried to visit you in the states, that's more difficult.

For you to visit him just say the truth, you're going to visit your fiance and if they ask show them proofs you intend to come back to the US. Many USC go visit their fiance(ée) in other countries all the time.

Go ahead and have fun

I just got back from a UK visit to my fiance. I arrived in Newcastle on June 17th and this was my POE conversation:

"Your reason for visiting? And for how long?"

"Just a vacation for a week."

"Your plans while here? And where will you be staying?"

"With my fiance at his home at this address. I'm just coming over to visit him while we go through the US immigration process."

"Or you're getting married and he's moving there? Congratulations! You're just coming over to visit while you wait for his visa?"

"Yes. And to see his friends and family."

"That's lovely. How nice. And what day do you fly home? Do you have your return itinerary? May I see it?"

(I pull it out of the organized folder I had of NOA documents/employer letters, I-134 I was bringing to my fiance for the interview).

"Wow. You are very organized. That's lovely. Thank you, (STAMP) have a wonderful visit and congratulations again!"

:) She was very nice. I tried not to offer too much but i was 100% honest at the same time and it couldn't have gone smoother. Good luck!

And so he did what countless punk-rock songs had told him to do so many times before: he lived his life

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

Good luck out there!

I went over at the end of May, and said I was visiting my fiance. They didn't say anything. I had my NOA1 with me, because I was going to give that to my fiance for him to have when he came over to visit me the next month. Turns out he didn't have to use it or have a letter from employer. They let him in just fine.

I had a terrible time at immigration when I went to the UK in November. My original plan was to stay 12 weeks. Because of circumstances that arose, I extended my return date twice... and I certainly did not want to leave when I did so I can understand why they might think someone would just stay. I stayed just short of the six months allowed.

The woman that spoke to me was very suspicious... a woman traveling alone, no job, planning to stay 12 weeks .... I think I was very close to being turned away. When she did let me through she seemed very reluctant. I still wonder what notes are in a computer somewhere about me. I didn't have much with me to prove I would return. I did bring the deed to my house which I wanted for our embassy interview but a house can be sold from afar... I may very well be doing just that. I have my fiance visa now for the UK but the house is not yet sold. I know I had a few other things with me for the interview (we didnt have a date yet but we got one shortly after I arrived).. I just cannot remember what now.

She asked if the "friend" i was visiting was male or female, how we had met (online), if we had met in real life yet (yes), if he had visited me in the states (yes), if he had stayed with me here (yes). She asked who paid for my ticket (I did but I have no idea what answer she would have preferred.. its really all OUR money in the end) . She asked how much money I had (only$100 cash but i had my credit and debit card). She wanted then to know how much money i had available and and if that was credit or real money. I couldnt have proved the answer I gave her. The thing is, I didnt spend any of my own money when I was there (except for paying utility bills online for back here) but I suppose she was wondering how I would take care of myself if Tom threw me out! She asked if he was meeting me there (yes). I can't remember the entire conversation as I had left the USA after midnight and had not slept all night and had almost thrown up upon landing. That entry was probably as stressful as any part of this journey has been.

I was so relieved to finally be allowed to go. Tom said I was the last one out from that flight. I know he was getting concerned.

So I would say take proof of everything.. especially proof that you are planning for your fiance to be the one who immigrates to the USA.
