microsoft wse 3.0 x509 certificate tool has encountered a problem and needs to close

Just wondering if anyone out there are computer experts of some sort. I'm trying to install The Sims 3 (from the CD, not a pirate version) and at the end of the installation I get that error message "microsoft wse 3.0 x509 certificate tool has encountered a problem and needs to close". After that point the installation finishes but the game launcher also goes into error and the game doesn't start at all.

I've been researching the Microsoft site and Google in general but so far I haven't been able to fix this issue. Through some suggestions I've tried installing the framework 3.5 SP1 and I get the same error message trying to install that.

I've never seen this error before upon installing anything and at the EA forums nobody seems to have this issue going on, so I'm at a loss.

Try to load this first - WSE 3.0

then sims 3

(that is - if your not running vista)

Ok - so that narrows it down to your computer - not sims 3.

Run windows update to make sure you have everything up to date.

If that still doesn't install - remove .net and then re-install it from downloads (just install ver 3.0). (reboot in between). then the SP1

Then install the wse 3.

No errors - then sims 3.

I have seen this error with programs people make with VB 2005/2008. Something to do with the key generation for security...

( if your really brave - if the above doesn't work - try the beta 4.0 .net framework)

So more people are having this same issue Bohr? 'Cus mostly I see people having either crashes or the Disc Authorization error, which seems different from what I have.

I'll try reinstalling it but I find it odd that this is the first thing I ever try to install that gives me that message.

Correct - they are probably using the WSE to connect the game back to the EA servers.

Yeah I thought it might be that since we supposedly select stuff to share with the community straight in game.

Re-installing it is proving futile as my comp doesn't show as having it (WSE 3.0) installed in the first place. >.<

ach - wrong link 3.5 instead of 3.0.

You should be showing the .net install?

I'm running the update now and after I'll uninstall the older versions of the framework and download the new one.

Try Bobby solution. If not try to bypass the launcher by going to "Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\TS3.exe."

good - sometimes the old versions don't exactly mesh with each other...

Great, it doesn't let me remove .net 'cus it might affect other applications.

EDIT: I'm trying the repair button instead.
