I successfully completed my interview yesterday in San Diego, downtown. My interview was at 12:45 pm and I arrived at 12:40 pm. (I should have come early...but there was lot for traffic and had difficult time get a parking spot). Anyway I was called in at 12:42 and IO was very nice. At first I was asked to take the oath and then he went through the application. I made one international trip since I applied, but the IO was not interested in that so I did not bother to mention that. He just asked me whether I will bear arms in case I need to, to which I answered "yes". Then he took the test, asked me 6 questions (very simple questions...# of senetors, age for voting, ...i don't remeber others). Then he congratulated me for passing the test and said that he is recommending me for approval. I was out of the office in less than 10 minutes.

I asked the IO to put me to oath on wednesday (19th August), but he said there is a 10 day cut off date so he cannot put me in. He said that I will get the oath letter in mail in next couple of weeks.

In all very pleasant experience. Just wished if I could get my oath done sooner, but that's ok....

Just wondering how many of you are choosing the old test and how many are choosing the new test?

I don't think we have a choice here.

"Files* the Application for Naturalization, Form N-400, ON or AFTER October 1, 2008, will take the new test." - USCIS.

My husband was told at his biometrics he could choose between the old test and the new test. This isn't the first time I have gotten conflicting advice. It's not like I'm new to this- we've been doing this for years. I think I'm just fed up at this point. Wishing you all good luck- I'm done posting.

Hi Shakysgirl :) I think your hubby got some wrong guidance at the ASC (after all the people that work there are not IOs), it just depends on the date of the filing, some people did have the choice when USCIS was cutting over to the new test, but for all of June filers its definitely the new test. In the booklet from the ASC, there's a cover sheet that explains the dates, I'm not sure the ASC people see when we applied, so they may not know when things apply and when they don't.

I know this process is such a struggle, but you know its totally worth it at the end. I think we're all a bit frustrated that our I-751s took so long (having to carry that stupid copy of the NOA around and expired GC really wore on me, and being shunted around from service center to service center, and desperately checking the mailbox), but we've all really been lucky with our N400 processes so far, compared to the N400 folks a year to 18 months ago during the fee increase who had to wait a huge amount of time to just get a NOA...

Anyway, good luck on hubby's process (F) by the end of the year he'll likely be a citizen :)

I just called USCIS. And my application is still in queue for interview. They don't have a date yet. It sounds like we would be lucky to even get an interview date in October.

Hey CColdwell,

Also one more piece of info. Not so good news however.

The USCIS site showing the current processing time for all the regional offices is showing a cut off date for N400 apps to be Jan 30, 2009. I remember when I checked it right before I filed my application in June and it used to say 5 months. However this was changed when they updated the info on June 30, 2009. So it sounds like the apps are backlogged and from the cutoff date the avg (on the higher side) processing time seems to be about 6-7 months.

Called USCIS for possible interview date. I was told that I will get my interview letter possibly in a month and was told that procesing date and timeline for newark filers is January 2009.

Oh well :)

Well, would that be bad news? Think of people (like me) who have to wait 4 months after interview day for the oath... I applied in the last week of June and my interview is at the end of October, if I am approved my oath will be in February or March 2010 ? Be grateful :) I hope it goes smoothly for you and way faster than you think, roosh...

I wonder what time Poisontee's interview is/was?? Hope they come back to tell us!!
