Northern Europe has been doing this for years so it's only logical that other countries would follow. I am very proud that China took the initiative. Now i wonder how long it will take the U.S. to do something. I thought America was a progressive country... what's going on?

As much as i love Qingdao and it's quirks, who really wants to drink beer from a plastic bag??? Maybe they will reuse those bags or upgrade to something more environmentally friendly... or maybe alcohol consumption will decrease which would be better for their health. I saw so many people get injured because of alcohol consumption in Qingdao... even a few deaths so i'm not going to fret the future of the use of plastic bags as beer containers;)

this ban is on the ultrathin bags that grocery stores used to package food, and street vendors used for the same purpose. the real reason for the ban is litter reduction. the sides of every road in china are a mile high with this stuff, even after the ban.

this is what happens when you go from bananna leaves and corn leaves as a method of packaging meals to plastic bags in one generation. everybody grew up throwing the corn leaves on the side of the road and it was not a problem. india is in the same condition, struggling to adapt an undeveloped culture to a developed economy.
