Asking again in the hopes of a better answer?

The answer is:

Answer question 23 with your CURRENT income (not simply what your previous year's tax return says). Your pay stubs and employment letter will be used to back that number up. It (the I-864) does not necessarily need to match the number on your previous year's return.

When I filled out this part, I had a totally different job from the one I had from the prior year's taxes. I just figured out my monthly income, multiplied the number by 12, and put that number on that line. I even wrote a little supplement letter to explain how I came up with the number. Don't know if I needed to, but I did, and that worked out just fine. ;)

"current" means the day you fill it out and sign it. If your current income is $26,000 that's what it is. 2008 is 2008. Document your current GROSS income and you are good to go.
