BAck When Clinton was President he helped pass DOMA (defense of Marriage act).

This basically insured that the Federal Govt would ONLY recognize a marriage as between a man and Woman.

Although we didn't hear much about this issue during Champaign (or much else meaningful) one of the First things Obama did was to make a pledge on his website WHITEHOUS.GOV to repeal this popular law, which obviously would go a long way to "nationalize" alternative marriages.

Well it appears he has dropped any mention of this commitment from his website with no mention why.

Not to worry my Liberal friends...... The commitment to extend "civil rights" to not only Homosexuals but Trans gendered folks as well is still there.

Repealing DOMA is just not practical. There is still a lot of work to do, culturally, before this nation is ready for that.

We aren't Europe yet.

There are many people in the US who are not ready, probably the majority. That doesn't mean its the right course to deny the equality that legalizing gay marriage. We can re-hash old arguments about prior civil right abuses and how society accepted it then and had a hard time changing but it will get us nowhere on a topic that has been done to death on VJ.

Change will come, it will take many more years but it will happen, I am confident of that.

If it's a right, when was it first recognized and in which country?

Why has this suddenly become an issue? What changed so dramatically? I can't think of a single major incident.

Not bad coming from a president who, on the first morning of his presidency, made four calls to the ME. Not that that has anything to do with the topic..... but carry on.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

He's not thinking clearly if he is backing away from homosexuals. More green tea required Mr Obama!

What did you expect, him to back right into them instead? I don't think he plays for that team. Michelle would whup his scrawny azz if he did.

I bet Michelle could whup some azz!

I'm bettin she's not one of these ####-kiss mothers when it comes to her kids.

Whimpy moms are a real turn-off for me.
