We are leaving the country for a six+ week vacation and I was just wondering about a few things:

1. My wife's AP document and her passport have different last names (because of our marriage). Is it possible for her to reenter the US with these documents?

2. Is there a maximum length of time that we can stay out of the country on AP?

3. Will mail from the USCIS be forwarded to my parent's house with the rest of my mail?

Perfectly possible - most folks will carry (not that it's required) a copy of the marriage certificate.

2. Is there a maximum length of time that we can stay out of the country on AP?

You certainly don't want to be gone longer than 1 year (some advise less than 6 months) but a 6 week trip should be fine (obviously you don't want to miss things like biometrics and/or interview appointments).

3. Will mail from the USCIS be forwarded to my parent's house with the rest of my mail?

No - USCIS mail does not get forwarded by USPS, it gets returned to sender. In order to get mail at the new (even temporary) address, an AR-11 would need to be filed.

Six weeks should be fine, as long as the AP document date will be valid.

A certified copy of your marriage certificate should bridge the gap of the name differences.

Mail is forwarded unless it has written on it POSTMASTER: DO NOT FORWARD. I've got a few envelopes, including the GC envelope that don't say that, so it should be forwarded. Now whether the post office gets the forwarding right could be another question. And have you worked out how you would handle an RFE if you were out of the country past the deadline to return it?

1. Yes. Bring copy of marriage certificate

2. Yes. But it is more than the 6 weeks you will be gone. No worries

3. No. I would advise removing the forwarding of mail and have someone pick up your mail while you are gone. You do not want anything from USCIS to be missed
