Hi guys, just wanted to comment quick. Reading these posts makes me miss Hai Au and VN. so much. I love to eat VN. food when I am there, but after a couple weeks I have to have something American. She lives in Bien Hoa so I don't get a chance to get to Saigon to try the food there. We tried a hamburger in Bien Hoa and it was bad. The local pizza joint owned by a French guy was so-so. When I talk to her on cam next time, I am going to have her explain some of the food on list that ChuckandKim posted.

To hniHnitsuJ, good luck on your interview coming up. NVC recieved our DS-230 and I-864 last week so we are hoping for fast approval and interview date like you guys recieved.

Thanks to all for the stories and info, it makes me miss Hai Au more but also helps pass the time till we can be together again. Good luck on your journeys and God Bless!! Bye for now.

Thanks Dave N Hai Au. After completed NVC, called them everyday for interview date. Good luck.

*YACKI* guys.. and sorry guys... no *thit cho* Snake blood... worms, or rats for me. My wife she eats thit cho, snake, and heo rung..AND ETC.. I told her,... :bonk: NO NO NO.. NOT FOR ME .... she actually got me into eating alligator one time, and she told me she order *THIT BO*, but it's was VERY GOOD. After I looked at the BILL, and I realize it's THIT CA SAU, and next thing I was puke all night.

I love all the food from vn, but, when come to some animal food like THIT CHO, RATS, SNAKE>>> no no for me. eventhough, I do drink *NHAU* alot in VN, but never I will try out any animal foods, like scorpion, or snake...

this is what I like on my menu.

Linh doesn't like the exotic foods either. Though she tells me about them.

And I don't eat much when we go out to her grandparents home (near Phu Rieng in Binh Phuoc province) because I'm worried about the well water and general food handling. (To quote Mos Def in the Italian Job: "I HAD a BAD EXPERIENCE!") So I am probably missing out on sampling some of the more interesting stuff.

I'll run down the lists posted on here with Linh to get some pointers for the next trip. I know we eat many of those things regularly now.

The rest of them, I say... We are civilized people for god's sake, people! Cook them, boil them, serve them on a gold plate, still they are rodents or pets.

But I do scretely believe I can eat snake and drink snake blood vodka like those guys on TopGear... never tried, never planned to... but anything could be possible

I'd do the snake blood or heart in vodka. The booze will kill anything that might hurt you. If figure all the moonshine that I drank in college from the hills of North Carolina and Virginia had worse mixed in.

I was introduced to "Ruu dan toc" con duoc goi la "ruu can". At first it was grose because the taste was sour but they said that you might get drunk and you don't even know it. That's the only wild ruu that i tried. Other than that, i love ruu bau da. It was nice to taste the real vietnamese made liquor.

My wife says that I'm at about 50% on the foods list. I guess that's not too bad. Maybe if I mixed in more Viet food I'd be less map. :)

hahah That's funny. I've gained around 5kg when I came back from Vietnam. So I guess eating Vietnamese food doesn't make you less map. hehehe If we crave for food then doesn't matter what culture of food you eat, you still going to get some what MAP.

I've done this. Actually, I've eaten all the "exotic" foods mentioned here, plus a few that aren't listed here.

The snake blood tastes a lot more like wine, and I just swallowed the heart, so I couldn't really tell you what it tastes like. Feeling the thing still beating in your stomach is a curious sensation, however.

Coincidentally, I'm from North Carolina also, though not from the 'hills.'

If you're actually trying to taste the heart, it taste like rare steak with blood. It's a little bit salty and ofcourse bloody. Keep you up all night and doing you know what. It's great! :)
