good day everyone

I have question regarding the income earned by my husband in combat zone for the mission OIF.My husband was deployed overseas from 2006 up to may 2008. so in other words part of his 2008 federal income tax return was nontaxable (jan-may 08)..starting june 08 his military status is on reserve force up to this date,,therefore we have to use the 125% poverty guideline..when i look at the total gross income in his 08 federal IRS the amount reflected was his income in civilian job like $17th something and we have to meet the $32th+ poverty line in household size of 5.however in his W2 box 12, his combat zone income was reflected which is the nontaxable income amounting to $22th ..if we were add the two taxable and non taxable the sum would be $39th something which is sufficient enough to meet the poverty guideline..but if we will base the income in his taxable income which is 17th its quite below the poverty guideline..i need some help in here..its kinda confusing..which amount are we gonna use the 17th or 39th?
