Stuck in AP at NVC since June 25th. It's driving me a little bit insane, especially when I see packets mailed out of there in 2 days. Aaargh! I want an interview date!

Congrats!

Last Friday, I booked a ticket to go to Guatemala during Labor Day weekend. I found a relatively good price and it was an impulse buy. I'll be there on the 4th and only staying until the 8th....It just so happens that he got his interview date scheduled for the 10th. Good news! But now it seems rather silly that it's 2 days after I'll be there and I won't be able to go. I can't ask them to reschedule for the 7th b/c it's labor day and they are closed. I'm wondering if I should try to change my ticket...The pros: being there for the interview. The cons: extra expense, extra days off work that I'd rather save up for a honeymoon next year... I'd really like to be there for the peace of mind, but to be honest, I'm not all THAT worried about the visa being denied. I guess I'm wondering if anyone who has been through this has any advice or perspectives to share...

We are a very small group! I almost didn't find this thread. We just filed for K1 fiance visa in September, and the NVC is getting ready to send out our info to the consulate so hopefully we will have an interview date very soon. Any suggestions or heads up on what to expect about the interview, the medical appointment, etc?

DAnne, there's really nothing out of the ordinary to expect about the interview - just be sure not to enter any cell phones (when we went for the interview, we had hired a driver so we left them in the car, but when Josue went to pick up his visa the next day, he had gone on a bus so he had to pay some guy outside the embassy Q15 to hold his phone). The medical should be no problem, and the interview was simple for us, but the lady did ask to see pictures and my divorce decree, etc. Be prepared with all the papers and put them in the order they are on the list they send to you. Be sure to take out an extra birth certificate because if I remember correctly you'll need it for AOS. Looks like your petition is heading through really fast so hopefully you will have an interview set in no time!

I just now ran across this thread - didn't know we had one for us Chapines :)

Josue has been here since 4/19 and we married 4/20, you can read the signature/timeline to get all the details if you want, but just the other day (11/23) his AOS got approved so we are just waiting for the green card! We already got the Welcome letter! Things have been moving right along for us - he got his GED in September (they offer the test in Spanish), got his VA driver's license in August, started a part time job in October and moved up to full time in November! Hope everyone else is doing well.

Oh, and he's been taking ESL classes through the library for free since June. If your SO doesn't speak English very well, I definitely recommend checking into this!

Most participants in this thread haven't logged on to VJ since 2012 or earlier, which makes it a very old thread. If you wish to start a new thread, feel free to do so in this forum or -- perhaps better -- in the Mexico/Latin/South America regional forum, where folks could lapse into Spanish if desired.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
