Hey. I have a quick question on the I-864 and apologize if this has already been asked before.

I am including my 2008 tax return.... (I am the sponser/wife of the immigrant/us citizen/etc), but not my 2006 or 2007 returns because I didn't make enough in those years to meet the requirements (well, I didn't make enough in 2008 either, but I do now)... but on the form there is a spot to put the adjusted gross income. Well, my problem is that I have all my tax documentation for every year since 2003 or so - except for 2006. Stupid me never printed a copy out, and only saved it on my computer... and, sadly, that computer no longer exists. I filed electronically I think, but don't know what company I went through, so I can't get the info that way either.

Any advice on how to find out what my 2006 Adjusted Gross Income was? I DO have all of my W-2's from that year if that'll help me to figure it out. Thanks!

Call the IRS and get all your tax transcripts for free.

It has everything you need (1040/w-2) -

Plus they are better to send than your copies of the 1040/w-2 IMO.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

I'd second that opinion - and since you'd be ordering 2006, might as well go ahead and order 2007's as well (don't know if 2008's would be available yet though).

You have to fill out 4506-T form "Request for Transcript of Tax Return" . Fill out this form & mail it.

You will receive in 2 weeks. Here is the link for the form :

REQUEST for TRANSCRIPT of TAX RETURN

Mailing is much better than calling, because IRS is extremely busy right now.

A couple of ideas.

For the I-864 you need only submit 1 years return and enter the amount for the other two. Of course you should be prepared to provide a copy of this if asked. You can get a transcript as suggested above (probably should have it for at least anither year anyway)

Add up your w-2s for 2006. In the income range you speak of, your gross and adjusted gross are very likely the same. Look at the 1040 form and see if any of the adjustments apply to you. If not, then your gross from the w-2s is all you need to file the paperwork, but get the transcript just in case they ask for it.

Thanks everyone for your replies! :) I found a 1040 form from 2006 and checked - my gross income is the same as on my w-2's.... so that makes the form easy. And I filed out a request for the transcripts to be mailed to me, so that I have a copy on file. Thanks again!
