Sending package to USA

I have lots of things to bring but the thing is there are limits when it comes to baggage in the plane. Can someone tell me what is the best way for me to send my things in advance to USA. It's probably like 10 pounds heavy. Someone told me that i can go directly to the Port Area in Manila and look for a ship on the way to USA. I can send my balikbayan box package through a ship, however it will take 1 to 2 months for my relatives to receive it.. IS THIS TRUE?

yes its true, a balikbayan box takes about a month or two to arrive. if you only need to send about 10 lbs of belongings, why not just FedEx it to your relatives here?

Im not sure if its 10 pounds but i know its more - its more of my shoes, bags, albums etc...

maybe you should just call the airlines & ask how much it will cost for you to bring an extra bag or box on the plane.

if you have small feet (like my wife size 4 1/2-5) bring your shoes...all of them. you won't believe how hard it is to find smaller sized heels, boots & sandals that don't have childrens designs on them in the US.

eta: where in the US are you going & you wanna do some shoe shopping for my wife while you're still in the PI?

haha well, my husband is from WA State.... i heard its $200 for an extra baggage... hmmm

$200 for the extra bag, the cost of shipping thru Fedex or the balikbayan box might be worth it.

tell your husband to go looking for heels or nice sandals in your size & tell him to help you decide if $200 is too much....remind him- cost of the shoes + the hassel of looking all day w/o finding anything vs. shipping what you already have.

I would definitely check with the airline. From London to the US to bring an extra bag was about $150...but that was totally worth it as shipping all of the stuff that I was able to fit into that bag would have been a lot more expensive!

From my experience yes...but then again, that could be different in different countries!

if u have decided to send it through FEDEX or any Private courier, Be very careful of the things you are sending...The US customs might confiscate it or send your whole package back to the philippines...make sure you dont violate the Laws in US customs. Some private couriers (especially FEDEX)are damn about these laws and would allow your things to be sent to US and in the long run, you will be lliable for it. For instance, you might think of sending along your borloloys or bangles made of real shells,pearls,etc...or any "Gucci or Guess" bags which were sold in divisoria or baclaran for example...remember that these are prohibited by the US customs. just be careful...it's better to bring them with you along your trip and just don't declare them.

by the way, sending half a pound package will cost you around 2000pesos (depending on what courier u take). Hope u can decide what is best to do.
