Hi again. I am almost ready to submit the I-129F once I get back to Puerto Rico. My fiancee asked me if the fact that she's unemployed since November 2006 can affect somehow her interview, whenever it happens, because while reading the embassy reviews, specifically the one in Romania, she read some of the questions that were asked and found that 2 people were asked about why they were unemployed. I don't know what to answer her to ease her mind so I hope I can get some help here

Many thanks in advance.

Was she going to school during that time? If so, she could just say she was a full time student. Can she find a part-time job to keep up until the interview? This way she could have an answer to the question. I think what they want is to determine that they are sending a skilled person, able to work, not to become a public charge.

She worked at the postal office for almost 4 years. She's 25 year old now so she started working almost after finishing school. She had to quit because her parents moved to another house and it was too far from her job. I just hope this will not affect the outcome of the interview.

In general the financial situation of the foreign fiance(e) has no bearing on the case. Why they ask such questions, who knows?

Then she could just say that if asked. It shouldn't affect the outcome of her interview, it is your ability to support her that matters for the time being. I'm also unemployed right now, I'm looking for a part-time job until I get my interview, but I plan to say that I was focusing on my studies for the year I have not worked since I was getting my masters degree back then. I'll let you know if they asked anything about my lack of work experience during the last year.
