I probably didn't pursue it after 2nd grade then, but I do remember something about the History and Geography classes even though I didn't go beyond 2nd grade with those either. I was just thinking that perhaps the reason why RE was so useless in school (A subject that should after all be entirely fascinating) was because it was not an exam subject. However, that is not the excuse after all :)

It was offered at GSCE, though the "Preview" in year 2 didn't inspire me to take it up, just as economics didn't (though that was because our teacher for that was my school's equivalent of Professor Snape).

Our RE lessons were conducted by our grizzled, white haired head of year, who bought bottles of whiskey on the weekend from a supermarket I used to work at. There was also another teacher, who basically showed us very dated 70's videos about "moral issues" - and who was reduced to tears when the whole class roared with laughter at the one that dealt with rape.

I guess in the scale of importance, RE classes were/are deemed rather low on the scale of 'intellectual' subjects and therefore given a very low priority all around - hence bad teachers and a less than stellar curriculum, likewise music and other less 'fashionable' topics. Education is a morass of difficulties still :)

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

sister jundp... one of the Catholics I absolutely respect  -- as a woman of her faith and as an educator... (even if she owes me a coffee since 2007)

:luv:

Danno, why would you not allow your child to play at the home of a gay couple with a child? Are you afraid they will try to turn your child gay? Maybe they should be afraid you will try to turn their child straight? I kid.

But please, you didn't acknowledge what I said in an earlier post directed at you. Is this because you have no valid argument or because you find my logic "silly"? If the latter, please, enlighten me.

I think part of the problem here is that Danno probably feels like he's being told to "love and approve" of homosexuals. He doesn't have to and despite what anyone else thinks, it's his right to believe what he wishes.

However, disliking a group doesn't exclude them from enjoying the same rights as others. There are lots of people I disapprove of (or even hate) and they have the same rights as I do. It's wrong to expect everyone to have the same viewpoint and values and even worse to criticize them for disagreeing with you on those subjects.

I hardly think responding to someone's posts or engaging in a conversation/debate translates to criticizing them. And perhaps pointing out intolerance is criticism, but Danno can dish it just as well.

Maybe he can, but the sheer number of overly righteous hypocrites on this board never ceases to amaze me.

Please expand --- I am afraid I don't get what you're saying here.

It's fairly obvious. The majority here believe they are right, no matter what the circumstance is or how much information is presented. In addition, the stance many take will consistently shift if doing so helps their own argument. If someone disagrees (for any reason), then they must be ridiculed and beaten down. After all... an opinion that differs from your own can't have any merit, right?

High school students are more mature than people in this place.

wow, that is not saying much for high schoolers

"fairly obvious"? puh-leaze.

My opinions are just that, opinions. I don't think I have "truth" tied to my undies. Whether people like my opinions or not is really none of my business. I find NO MERIT in hate - none whatsoever.

If your opinion is valid, then so is Danno's or anyone else's opinion.
