Hi all

So i have just finished the long K-3 visa process and have finally arrived in the usa and am back with my husband after a year. now i want to work so we can buy a house and start our lives together. so what do i do now? do i have to adjust my status? how do i do that? how do i get authorization to work??? does anyone have the e-mail address or contact info for someone at the embassey i can talk to ?

im so tired of paperwork now but i know i still have more to go. any help would be great.

You can do the AOS or an EAD or both. If you file for both at once there is no additional fee for the EAD. As soon as you have your EAD or green card, you can work. Do not be surpirsed if you get the green card first.

If you do not want to do the AOS now you can file just for the EAD but it will cost you $340 extra in the long run.

EAD is not an embassy/consulate issue. but belongs with the USCIS..

adjustment of status = I-485.

EAD = I-765

YMMV

You can apply for adjustment of status to obtain permanent residency (Green card) with the form I-485 and use the I-129 for work authorization. I suggest filing both. Also if you intend on traveling out of the country, and coming back you can also apply for advance parole with the I-131.

I'd suggest applying for each of these. Good luck and congrats on accomplishing the first leg of your journey...

2011-05-16: Date Filed

2011-05-17: NOA Date

2011-06-14: Bio. Appt.

2011-09-21: Email confirming approval

2011-09-26: GC Received ツ

MY AOS Timeline:

2008-11-05: Date Filed

2008-11-14: NOA Date

2009-01-26: Bio. Appt.

2009-05-07: Interview Date

2009-05-14: RFE Received

2009-06-03: RFE Returned

2009-07-27: GC Received
