Okay... so I'm trying to figure out some of the variations in acronyms between the US & Canada. We do the same things, but we call them different things using different acronyms. I thought, to help dummies like me, it would be nice to have an online thread where I can go find what the letters all mean. So, I thought I'd start this post. Any others?

THANK you for that one!!!! I"ve been wondering about that. . . .

BTW, I live in Michigan and when I say soda (I'm originally from Arizona) people here don't know what I'm talking about. I have to say, "You know, pop??!!"

I've never heard a hoodie called a bunny hug - but that's cute!

Have never heard the U-Turn stuff either

The Bunny Hug is what people from Saskatchewan call a hoodie. :)

And the U-turn thing, is also known as "Flipping a ######" in the US. Tee hee

I also found out tonight that my Fiance had no clue what a "soaker" was either. Wonder what they call it when you step in a puddle and it totally soaks your shoes....he had no clue.

I just learned with that post!

Oh! I thought you were being sarcastic  Now I feel better!

How about Elastic/Rubber band

Or Transport/Semi (that may just be my weird lingo)

I think the Zee/Zed discrepancy is my favorite... It generates the most laughs :bonk:

I've never heard those, either. Lots of regional stuff, though, in both countries.

Let's make this easy: Karen's Linguistic Issues.

The link above connects to a website that compares vocabulary across American, British and Canadian forms of English.

That's cool. There are a lot of errors and omissions, but it's funny that someone took the time to put a website together.

But I thought this thread was to help us figure out government or business acronyms? I was learning something there for a moment!

Just goes to prove the average time it takes for an internet discusstion thread to go off topic. This one lasted 3 or 4 posts I think. ;)
