Citizenship application without approved I-751

Somehow they managed to send the ten year cards between the time we applied for the N-400, but very close to my wife's interview date. Did you also send in copies of your one year extension notice? Without that, your expired greencard is worthless.

I actually read about cases where the certificate of citizenship was issued before that ten year card came in. That I-751 still seems to be the slowest application to be processed by the USCIS and still is the most stressful period for the applicants. Can wait for USC, but without a current valid greencard, you are as good as dead.

Is this true? I did not send the copy of extension letter when sending my N-400 application, just the copy of my expired green card. Are they going to reject my application for citizenship?

Possibly, you need to show proof of legal status and that you have filed to remove conditions, the expire green-card just shows that you you are within 90 days of 3 years of residency.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

My N400 APPLICATION was rejected because I did NOT send the 1 year extention letter..

I was told by an officer at the ASC...that the person opening the package probrably did not

check the system to see if I HAD an extention...If you get a deligent person...u will have no problemms...but if u

get a slacker reviewing your package.....then.....they will send it back.

Try and get back into this country with an expired green card without that one year extension, the same thing with applying for the N-400. The only difference is that the USCIS should know from their database whether you are a LPR or not. But with the N-400, they know nothing about you, and while you went through that long process with the AOS and the I-751 like you got your green card out of a Cracker Jack box, you start from scratch, just like when you first came here.

I assume you have your expired green card AND a unexpired one year extension, if not the latter, you will need a I-551 stamp in your current foreign passport or had to bring two passport photos and get a I94 to prove you are a lawful permanent resident. You do not need that ten year card, but do need other kinds of USCIS proof that you are a LPR. A reasonable IO knows that the USCIS is kind of slow, but it's up to you to stay legal.
