I think you have to submit an application to IRS for a copy of your prior year tax return. Also to make sure, you may call IRS customer service and they could guide you.Thats my humble opinion.

I went to the local IRS office. I asked about requesting transcripts. She printed them in less than two minutes for the past three years.

If you call the IRS customer service and request copy of your transcripts they can even send it to you via fax while you are still on the line.

Call this IRS number, it is automated and you can request tax transcripts for several different years. They send it within a week. Tax transcripts are preferred to copies of the 1040 tax returns:

Thanks you for the useful information. I called the 1-800- number and requested transcripts through an automated service. They said I should I should receive it in 10-15 days. I will wait for it. My husband's green card expires on June 13th, so we have time.
