Just a quick question, would it be okay if I send a photocopy of I-864 supporting documents (eg W2, 1040) cos we only have one copy of each and we want to keep it (if possible)?

Thanks!

Call the IRS and get your tax transcripts.

Then you wont have to send your W-2/1040 (you would send copies anyway :))

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Pretty much, yes.

I called, and in about 15 mins or so, I received my transcripts by fax for the last 3 years.

You mean, I don't need to send W2/1040 as supporting docs of I-864 if I have the tax transcripts?

Pretty much, yes.

Cool! Does it have a charge for requesting such docs or what?

1-800 829 1040, Free 24/7. Takes about 6 days snail mail. Call during business hours and they IRS will fax same day. Free also.

Tax transcripts are better than W2s, 1099 and copied forms as they show you filed. Anything else doesn't.

That's correct! But if you have both send them. More ammo the better! I sent both.

Did so for embassy interview, AOS and removing conditions.

Good! I'll just send them all then.

But can I just send a photocopy of the tax transcript, w2, and 1040 for my son's (K2) AOS application? We'll be applying at the same time.

You have to send a separate I-864 for your anak. I sent separate Tax records and separate I-864 for my anak also. K3/K4.

Should it be an original copy for him as well or photocopies will do?

Photocopies of tax returns and W2s are fine.

Tax transcript income is verified by the IRS because they issue them based on having your return and W2s, so no need to prove income by sending a W2 with a transcript. The transcript alone shows all that is needed. Photocopies are fine.

You can take originals to the interview if they need to verify any original documentation.

If you have your tax transcripts, only send them. They are good enough for this.

Do not complicate the case by sending the same thing (ie 1040/w-2). It's redundant.

There is one case here where they just sent the W-2's (without the corresponding 1040's, and their whole file was sent back to them)

Which could of been avoided by sending just the tax transcripts.
