Hi all!

I'm starting the prep for my impending medical and interview, and would appreciate some advice on really cheap hotels(not hostels please:) that are close to both the doctors rooms in knightsbridge and the embassy. I've tried looking up hotels around the embassy, that was succesful(though the more the merrier!), but as for the medical place.....They were all a bit expensive! So if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear from you!

Many thanks

Jon

BRYANSTON COURT HOTEL - http://www.bryanstonhotel.co.uk/

MARBLE ARCH INN - http://www.marblearch-inn.co.uk/

these are listed on the embassy info page from vj.

i think someone recently stayed at the boston court hotel (bostoncourthotel.co.uk).

not super-nice places, from what i hear, but they get the job done.

That area of London is expensive for anything decent and I'd imagine anything cheaper would be #######. I'd suggest staying out somewhere further on the Jubilee line and just using that to come straight into Bond Street in the morning. If it was me I'd be looking for a Prem Lodge or the like in Stanmore or further down the line. There is a Days Hotel about 1 mile from the Tube Station in Stanmore.

Moved to the UK sub-forum for better advice.

From my own experience, my parents once stayed in the Marble Arch Inn (and I lived across the street from it for a year). It is not fancy and the beds are hard, but as mr and mrs say, it does the job. Personally, I wouldn't want to rely on a longish tube ride on the morning of a visa interview, particularly if you aren't very familiar with London. But that's just me. :)

If you don't mind using the tube I recommend the Ibis at Euston which is £52 a night. Or aim for a Travelodge, of which there are plenty. If you book early enough you can get fairly cheap rooms. Depends how much you want to spend, I've found that really cheap rooms in London can be pretty grotty unless you go with a chain.

I made a map showing the hotel where we stayed Lincoln House Hotel and also the Marble Arch Inn where others have stayed. Lincoln House is like a bed and breakfast. They held our luggage and phones free for us while we went to the Embassy. Then we went back and retrieved the phones before doing some sightseeing, but they held the luggage all day. We didnt pay as much as the website says. They publish some specials and we negotiated by calling. Discount for cash I think. It was clean and pleasant, but compact. Lots of teas/coffee. Refrigerator. Free wireless or computer with internet tucked under the stairs in the entry hall. (It's a house, no lobby really.) Good breakfast.

No elevator and we were at the top. Long day, bus trip, dragging luggage = :dead: But we had a nice view.

Bathroom--clean, but you could use the toilet, shave your legs in the shower and brush your teeth in the sink simultaneouly. Yeah that small. I timed the walk to the Embassy and it was 20 minutes not walking fast.

According to a guy I talked to at the interview, there is a Traveloge near the station you can get for £29 if you book in advance.

I stayed at the Boston Court Hotel for £46, but it was pretty poor. Although there were loads of bnb's on that road...Berkeley something road I think? Just up from the Marble Arch - 5 minutes walk to the embassy, about the same to the medical.

That must be Upper Berkeley Street! I lived there just before my husband and I moved in together. Yes, plenty of B&Bs on that street. The Ibis and Travelodge are also good ideas and are an easy commute if you stay in Zone 1.

I stayed @ St Giles on Tottenham Court Road. 15min walk to Embassy.

Hotel was nice, room was comfortable.

Got a room for £62, but that was a last minute booking as heavy snow forced me down to London the night before the interview! So if you book in advance you an get a better deal.

Left my luggage at hotel for no charge while i went for the interview.

I've no idea, but for £29 you can't go wrong regardless
