I don't like watching movies that are overtly gruesome. One of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen, was The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover...especially whenever I see a whole roasted pig like the one I ate yesterday.

This weekend I caught a the last part of Hostal 2,now that freaked me out ! :girlwerewolf2xn:

Yeah that was on TV the other night. I had seen the first one and thought that the idea was interesting, but its just too extreme and graphic to be considered as "entertainment". Especially with the sequel being focused on the torture of women - and that subplot with the two rich guys who were joining the torture club. It's reminscent of some of the old exploitation movies (like Last House on the Left - the remake of that is out now) but the violence is so sadistic and over the top that it's like watching some nasty piece of porn. Leaves an unpleasant taste in the mouth - though not to the degree that Peter Greenaway's films do, but those are quite a bit more artistic than torture porn movies like this.

I write film reviews on a friends blogsite - and had to do a review on Turistas once. That's probably the worst one I've seen - not only graphically nasty (like watching surgery footage), it also had a racist subtext about South Americans.

Yeah - that's Peter Greenaway. That scene really does turn the stomach.

There's also another of his movies - The Baby of Macon (I think) which has a stylised gang rape. Its more implied than anything you actually see - but very disturbing.

Saw is pretty grim watching.

The movies that generally gross me out are the horror/thriller movies from China, Japan, and South Korea. I know many of you don't like subs, but, US films are nowhere as close to horror/thriller psych as theirs.

that I agree.. asian horror flicks are scary as fukc!

even non-horror ones leave an impression.. you think a US producer would make a film like battle royale? lol

asian cinema ftw

I love battle royale, not seen it in a while though.

Other asian movies that are superior to their US remake counterparts are the Ring and Grudge. They are far more atmospheric and better at f***ing with your head.

Saw is pretty grim watching.

I watched the first one and can't understand how they were able to make 4 sequels off the back of it.

It was terrible - not only drawn out and rather boring, but the twist at the end was so implausible it gave a new name to implausible endings!

Suicide Club is weird! I like Ju-On 1, and Ju-On 2. Freakier than The Grudge. The father of the family dissected the baby from the womb of the mother, bagged it, and slammed it against a telephone poll. The Grudge (US Version) changed the story a little bit to cater towards the American audience.

There's another freaky movie called 3extremes. They woman deliberately gets pregnant. Then, a few weeks later during her early pregnancy she goes into the tub, and induced an abortion. Afterwards, she eats it raw. The theory was eating the young will make you young. I think it was in the 3extremes movie.

There's a nice psychodelic thriller from South Korea called A tale of two sisters. This movie will make you wet your bed.

Is Tetsuo 2 - the one where the guy's kid is being held hostage and gets shot with that weird gun and all that's left are his arms?

I like the first Battle Royale - didn't care for the second. The director died during the filming I think, and his son ended up making it. A troubled production from what I heard.

Its only a concept that works once IMO. Did you see Series 7: The Contenders a few years ago?

Interesting idea - only watched it once.

tetsuo the iron man is a 1 part movie.. it's this guy that cuts himself to 'implant' metal parts in his body, and eventually he becomes this crazy human-machine thing with a drill and all effed up stuff

I actually liked the first saw movie. I can't understand why I keep getting suckered in to watching the sequals but I do. I have withstood the curiosity of how the 5th installment will play out.

Even if you don't like them they are blood thirsty as hell. Hostel was terrible imo but people sem to like it for some reason.
