I received the NOA 1 and it was on fancy paper and very official looking. 4 months later I got an e-mail stating that "On February 23, 2009, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E). Please follow any instructions on the notice"

About a week and a half later(March 4th) I got what I thought was the NOA 2, but now I'm not sure. It is a standard size white paper that looks like it was typed and printed on a computer. Not anything like the NOA 1. It states:

Dear Petitioner,

The State Departments National Visa Center has recently received an approved I-129F petition filed on behalf of your fiance'. This letter is to let you know that within a week the petition will be forwarded to the appropriate visa-issuing post where your visa interview will take place.

Our records show that you filed the I-129F petition for:

Name........Gives her name

INS Receipt Number......Gives #

Barcode is here

Case Number......Gives #

Your fiance' will soon recieve a packet with instructions from the consular section on how to apply for the K1 visa at that post and what documents will be required.

Sincerely,

Bureau of Consular Affairs

I've called NVC and the automated voice says they haven't received the case yet. Does anyone know what this means?

Thanks for your response.

The NOA2 looks exactly like the NOA1 except for the message. Wht you have is the NVC notice which normally comes after the NOA2. You will need a copy of the NOA2 for the interview, so if you do not get one soon, call the USCIS. It can take 2-3 weeks to get the notice in the mail.

Oh, Okay. Thanks for the quick replies. Strange that I would get the notice for NVC before the NOA 2 tho.

Someone else can probably speak to this better than me, but from what I understand, you will need NOA2 to adjust status. So I think it is important that you get it.

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

I feel as though the other posters adequately responded to the OP, however I did want to point out that there are example photographs of all the major documents here on VJ.

You can see NOA2 here:
