The main issues I believe are the screen resolution - its obviously lower than your normal laptop, so you have to do a bit more scrolling than usual.

You'll be able to do Office, the internet and some older versions of photoshop - though photo-editing is a bit pointless on a screen that low-res.

Also no optical drive - you have to download programs over the net or upload them by USB, unless you shell out another $100 for an external DVD drive.

Yes... to be honest if I wanted something for myself that was ultraportable I may consider one of these as a backup... the uses seem quite sufficient for most remote applications anyway. The screen resolution is something to consider as well- perhaps not necessarily for image work but for long term spreadsheets and the like. I will have to take the Mrs to BB (yuck) to play around standing in front of one for a while to see how that goes.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Well the screen res is basically what desktop PC screens were at in 2000 (1024 x 768), though the native res is 1024 x 600.'

You can watch videos on it - up to 720p

Most of hte new ones ship with Win XP, I wouldn't mind swapping that out for Ubuntu - but there's no clear guide on how to do that in a way that doesn't screw up the laptop drivers.

Thanks all!! Like the 1000HE with the 9.5 hr battery life! $375 on Amazon.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

, unless you shell out another $100 for an external DVD drive.

Ebay $30.00 is where I bought mine.. Used, but seems to work fine.

Pretty good price!

You can buy a new one at Newegg for 49.99. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16827106248

The one I bought is about 1/2 inch thick and fits in the case I bought for the Netbook, That looks one a lot thicker.

You have a slim one. They are more than the one I linked to. They start at about $70.

The only reason to buy a slim drive is if you need it to be portable - but its not really practical for watching DVDs as you have to mess with the cable, especially in an airplane seat.

Mainly you'd just want one so you can install/reinstall software from CD, though it is possible to copy the program files to a USB thumbstick as an ISO file - or download them directly.
