It didn't work but if it gained traction Obama would have changed his name to a symbol and asked to called "the junior Senator from Illinois" or something along the lines of "I like Ike" or "Barack the Vote".

As I said - it came out of the same ragbag of dirty tricks that tried to paint Obama as a secret muslim.

It doesn't matter whether or not it was successful - the "intent" is surely at issue.

Namely - that it was done to fuel xenophobia that Obama isn't a "real american", something that people like Justashooter seem to have swallowed hook, line and sinker.

Kenya is inhabited by people of many ethnicities. The Chinese traded there under Cheng He in the 1600, so you see today people in Kenya descended from Chinese and the Javanese slaves they exported to East Africa, and moreso to Madagascar. Arabs are among of the ethnic groups existant in Kenya today. They immmigrated to East Africa en masse most recently during the early Victorian period, and acted as slave traders, an honorable profession in the Arab thought.

They made fortunes buying captured blacks of interior tribes from local tribes, and selling them to westerners at the dockside. Osama's family is from this parentage, whether you like it or not. In Kenya, birth records describe parentage by ethnicity, and have so since the early days of British rule. Osama's father is listed as an Arab in the registry.

I am suprised that jack and cleo, being subjects of the crown, are so ignorant of the history of their former colonial possessions. Perhaps this inadequacy is indicative of the entire education upon which their personas rest. Leave it to a poor colonial to correct them.

I am curious though as to what you think this actually proves about Obama.

I'm actually part scottish on my mother's side - but that genealogy has nothing to do with my individual cultural identity. I'm no more culturally Scottish than Obama is culturally Arab or how a German descended Pennsylvanian is culturally German.

So while your little history lesson was nice and all - its unfortunate that you didn't read the preceding argument before you went to the effort of writing it (see bolded for key word).

Bollocks. Noone went out of their way to refer to John McCain or Hillary Clinton by their middle names - but apparently it was important to do so in the case of a guy with an Arab middle name.

Clinton dropped her maiden name, Rodham, when it suited her so you're wrong there. If you didn't get the Rod 'em conotations, well ask around. McCain got hit repeatedly with shots about his age and while true he's old guy, prejudice against older people is nothing to be proud of.

Nor did anyone ever call GWB Walker, GHWB Herbert Walker, nobody ever referred to Reagan as Wilson, Slick Willy as Jefferson and so on and so forth. Hasn't been done and nobody would have ever referred to Obama by his middle name if it wasn't for the fact that it is an Arabic name.

Defending this nonsense is quite weak. Doing so by comparing apples and oranges is even weaker.

No but comparing names to names doesn't get much simpler or concrete except to you of course. If you didn't notice any jokes on "W", "Dubya", "Bush", "Shrub", "McSame", "Rod Em'", "Slick Willy" (you even brought that up). . . then get out of your cave.

Any name, first, middle, maiden, last can be a easy target. Even Obama used a friggin name "Barry" (not is middle name either) in school for whatever reason. Funny how many people feel the need to defend a man's name who won the election. If he's so fragile on his name (he isn't because HE brought it up ALL THE TIME) then you guys are going to go nuts defending him when things really get rough.
