Hi,

My husband and I are going in for our interview on Thursday. I feel like we've been really slack about getting everything ready for this and I'm getting worried.

One of the reasons I haven't had any time to work on this is that I've been busy planning our second wedding in April! When we originally got married last June (after he came in to the country on a K1 Visa), we had a small civil ceremony with just our families. We did this because we wanted to get it out of the way for legal reasons and we just didn't have any money left after paying all of the fees for this whole process!!!

We do have a few photos from the original ceremony, along with our wedding certificate, but not much else. Should we bring in documentation that shows we are about to spend thousands of dollars to renew our vows (like receipts for cakes, catering, our invitations), or will this just confuse the issue? We have been together for over seven years, since we were teenagers, and we really don't want to make any mistakes at this point.

Thanks for your help with the matter!

A marriage certificate is all they need... shows you are legally wed. I think they will care more about whether you have records in eachothers name... financial, deeds, bills, joint accounts

Emmett Fitz-Hume: I'm sorry I'm late, I had to attend the reading of a will. I had to stay till the very end, and I found out I received nothing... broke my arm.

I think it will be great if you bring it all to the interview, but just in case. And you should tell them about your future wedding, if they get suspicious about your civil wedding.

What kind of proof do you have (besides several photos from your civil wedding)?

i am going through same thing. i am planning to get married on Feb 19th via civil ceremony. just a simple ceremony which will have my parents, brother, her uncle and justices of the peace. and then later on some other date we are going to have big indian ceremony done. we are not sure of the date. but for legal and for filing AOS, i need to get civil ceremony done as soon as posible. i also want to know should i proform this ceremony at a temple, or any were does it matter. and since it is so simple ceremony will they have any problem with it in interview. if they are ok with civil ceremony, we might not even proform hindu base second ceremony, because it cost a lot. please reply

Like a previous poster mentioned, the marriage certificate is the most important thing that they look at to see if you are legally wed. Whether it's from a civil ceremony or other religious ceremony is upto you. Just like you mentioned a regular wedding ceremony costs a lot, so more people these days are going the civil ceremony route, and i'm sure they understand that.

Thanks everyone for your posts. I think I will just bring along some of the information about our second wedding to show that even though we already fulfilled our commitment to getting married legally, we are willing to spend lots of money to celebrate our relationship. I think that it adds credibility, even though we hopefully won't need it!
