Why??

Because they want dope, cheap beer and nice beaches

Is that all there there is for the tourists in Mexico? You must be referring to the younger partying crowd.

I'd have to reread the original article but it seemed most of violence was in the border towns which don't have nice beaches.

huh??

What part of dope you didn't understand?

How much weed do you smoke when you're posting? I asked you if there was anything else in Mexico for tourists but I guess there isn't anything besides marijuana, Modelo and beaches that magically appear at the border towns.

Yeah yeah

Besides, I still don't understand why people go to Mexico since for what I've seen the Philippines have more of aaa mmmm how can i say it? "attractiveness" for foreigners if you know what I mean ;)

A colleague of mine went to puerto rico, booked a 5-day vacation, came back after 2 days there... said couldn't "stand all the goddamn puerto ricans"....

Now he just sticks to vacationing at cape cod.

Totally off topic, I know.

Thailand has that too.

But most likely a lot cheaper to go to Tijuana, I'd imagine. Esp. if you live in LA.

Yes, for the cost of gas and a few bulletproof vests. I wonder if they come in kiddie sizes.

It's what happens to "visitors" to our inner cities. They may not be there to either buy or sell narcotics, or to hook up with the 18-year old sister of a Latin King, or to shoot up a Blood hangout...... they may just be there to visit the social security office and get stuck in the crossfire. Wrong time, wrong place. Bad fvckin' luck.

It sounds rather like naiive people not doing any research beforehand.

There are similar places in *this* country I wouldn't set foot in.

Next you are going to tell me the beheading of people in the name of "drug wars" is also the norm both here and abroad.

My point exactly PD. If tourists do not take the time to research and want to play Indiana Jones in the Brazilian favelas, or the Mexico city barrios; why on earth are they surprised when they get mugged, attacked or worse? Really, stupidity reigns.

Hmm, I cannot think of one place in Australia you can go to and consequently lose your life.

I have not been to Australia for many years, but for your statement to be true, a lot must have changed in those years.

We were on a cruise vacation down there in October - only thing I really didn't like was how all the tour guides would try to steer you towards overpriced stores to buy diamonds and overpriced jewelry.

You should bought some marijuana and beer. Those are bargains.

Mexico is a little closer to the U.S. so it's cheaper to travel to. The Philippines has the advantage of having English speaking workforce and women willing to marry foreigners.

You can thank or blame Mexico for some the Philippine's historical development.

"In 1565, Governor General Miguel Lopez de Legazpi claimed the Philippines as a Spanish Colony and designated Manila as the capital in 1571. Due to its distance from Spain, the Spanish Government assigned Manila's administration and government to Virreinato de la Nueva España, name of Mexico in colonial times, for two and a half centuries. For that reason, many of the Philippine Governors were native Mexicans and the army was recruited among the Nueva España population, which resulted in a mix between Mexicans and Filipinos, not only in race, but more importantly in culture. Mexico administered the Philippines up until 1815, when the insurgent movement begun and Spain had to take direct control of the islands.

Evangelization and commercialization constituted the core of intercontinental ties between Asia and America that materialized with the Manila-Acapulco Galleon. Trade between Canton and Acapulco took place through Manila, where the Chinese junks unloaded silks and porcelains to be loaded in the Nao and sent to Spain trough Nueva España, in exchange for Mexican silver. That exchange of goods became also an exchange of ideas and customs."

Poor dumb@ss probably stayed in Condado (where all the foolish tourists with money end up). Likely missing 99% of the rest of the island.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
