We will be going to San Fran for wife's interview March 20. It is a 7 hour trip and we have a 9:30 am appointment so we will have to stay overnight on the 19th.

I would like any info on the parking at the federal building. Also looking for a hotel that is close and fairly cheap with free parking.

Thanks for your help

Sam

We are fortunate to be at the St. Paul office that is actually in Bloomington far away from downtown right off the interstate with plenty of parking. Chicago office is downtown in the middle of a huge no parking area and hotel cost is kind of like, hey, just want to rent a room for the night, not buy it. But still stuck with the Venezuelan Consulate only about six blocks away.

Did a google search to learn about that new to me metro service with train schedules posted. A station on a couple of miles away from my sisters home, parking at that station was two bucks a day, that was far superior to the last time we drove in. If my sister wasn't there, motels in that area are far more reasonable. In this way, google may help.

I wish they would move that Venezuelan consulate to O'Hare, they do serve half the distance to New York and LA the other way clear down to New Orleans. Can take an extra four hours just to drive from O'Hare to downtown Chicago with no place to park. Then they just have two office rooms with a waiting room the size of my hall closet with only three people working there.

I live in San Francisco. If you want a really cheap room, you might consider looking at private rooms in the various hostels around downtown. Many of them have their own private bathrooms, linen service, and free wi-fi. So it's just like a hotel room, but at a lower rate. Private rooms run about $50 to $80 dollars a night.

Parking and traffic downtown in the morning is a little annoying, so you might cab it to the immigration office instead.

Hope that helps.

We parked in the Embarcadero Center garage, a couple of blocks away. There are lots of parking garages in downtown SF, the problem is, they're pretty expensive. The reason we parked at the Embarcadero Center garage wasn't because it's a great place; no, we parked there because we saw the sign in time to make the turn to get in there. I don't remember the price, but I think it was somewhere in the neighborhood of $30.00 or so for the morning.

Probably the cheapest option would be to get a hotel somewhere in the suburbs close to a BART station. Then you could take BART in to the office. Sorry I don't have more specific reccomendations.

Since you're coming from the north, a scenic option would be to stay at a hotel near Larkspur, and take the ferry boat into the city in the morning. Courtyard by Marriot would allow you to leave your car at the hotel, walk to the ferry in Larkspur, and then walk from the ferry building in SF to the federal building. There are cheaper hotels along 101 in San Rafael. The Larkspur ferry has free parking.
