Hi VJ family,

I am just days away for my final interview. I am just worried because i was deported from my company in taiwan before for taking or shall we say stealing a scrap thing (VGA) for souvenier. The company deported me back in the philippines but i dont remember them turning me into the authorities. I already acquire a police clearance from taiwan and there was no conviction record under my name. But i am haunted with my past because i am scared and worried that they are going to check with my company regarding my work. I dont have any not good stamp in my passport. I even travel to South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Hongkong etc.. and now am presently living in Japan. Do i have to tell them what happened during that time or just let go of this? Any help and advices are greatly appreciated...thanks

Work record in a Southesat Asian country? No, I doubt it. What they'd be interested in would be previous visits to the US, legal or illegal; visa denials, US-related cases, etc. Don't worry about it. You're on spouse visa right?

If there's no sign of it on your passport, it won't be a problem.

Personally, my concern is I'm a freelance writer, had no formal education and also have a disability. I wonder if this would casuse them to think I'd be liable to become a "public charge."

Don't mention the incident. It can only create problems and provide an excuse to deny. You were not convicted by any authorities and I have never heard of them checking with prior employers.

You have a moral debt to yourself and you can clear that by being a good person and doing something good for others in need. But don't mix your feelings with the realities of legal forms and legal processes. You are not breaking the law by not disclosing a minor incident you had years ago at a job that did not result in prosecution or conviction in a court of law.

I would agree with Garu on this.

However, during my interview at the embassy, the CO was very very interested with my previous jobs and travels than my previous entry to the US (which was also job-related). So you might be asked on this (who knows :) ) and you might have to explain it, but they wont be asking what less than pure past you have done at the job. On that matter, they have all your police clearance, so no worries! All the best
