Quality of pictures?

I have read the 'Passport picture' guidelines (which have been a great help, but I was just wondering how many of you all just took your own pictures w/a digital camera and without professional equipment or whatnot. Also, how crucial is a little facial hair? Lastly, included in the 'proof of having met' I was going to paste a few pictures on a word document and put captions below them. Is this okay? or do they have to printed on film specified paper ect.. Thanks!!

I took my own photo w a digicam (with help of tripod & set d timer, if you could have someone to take d pic of u on a white background, it would be great) and use this site: http://www.epassportphoto.com/ to make the correct size of US passport photo.

I also took mine with a digital camera. ePassportPhoto wasn't working for me at the time, so I used http://www.portraitbooth.com instead.

thanks for the replies and link NetPatBen and dsd^rjp! Does anyone know if printing picture evidence on a normal printer/paper would be adequate?
