I recieved in the mail today a Request for Initial Evidence (I-485). The text under what I am mssing reads:

  • In order to process your application further, the petitioner/sponsor on Form I-864, Affidavit of Support must submit all Federal income tax documentation submitted to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for the most recent tax year.

For more information... (etc.)

I read the instructions thoroughly and when I submitted the application I included my tax return transcripts for the last tax year (2007) and also 2006. (I was claimed as a dependant by my parents for 2005). According to the instructions I thought the transcripts would be sufficient. All I can think is perhaps they want the W-2 forms for 2007? I'm just not exactly sure what they are looking for. Thank goodness I found this site!

Thank you,

Miniko

Thanks for your quick reply! Sorry if it was a dumb question it just didn't seem very clear to me when I sent it out. I thought the transcripts covered everything. :(

Thanks again!!!! :)

Generally transcripts are not only sufficient but preferred. If any of the returns is jointly filed with a former spouse though, they would need the W2's to separate the income.

Miniko, by "transcripts," do you mean the official transcripts you request from the IRS, or simply your own personal records? Just to make sure....

I would start re-gathering the transcripts along with any W-2 forms that you have.
