NEW YORK (SR) - New York politicians are lauding President-elect Barack Obama as a hero Thursday night after he managed to inspire the crew of US Airways Flight 1549 to safely land their plane in the middle of the Hudson River.

All 155 passengers and crew have been accounted for, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

"We have a heroic President-elect who has given hope to an entire nation, including the crew and passengers of that plane.

We've had a Miracle on 34th Street and now I believe we've had a miracle on the Hudson," Gov. David Paterson said at a joint press conference with Mayor Bloomberg on Thursday evening.

A flight attendant onboard said the pilot's last words before bringing the crippled aircraft in were, "Hey, if an ex-crackhead/socialist/pinhead can get elected President, I can land this plane in the Hudson River."

This is a great illustration of how "cult like" Obama has become. Alot of ppl act as though they have some personal attachment to Obama and are willing to turn a blind eye to anything negative he has done in the past. All the while showing the opposite morality when applied to someone else!

The idea that obama is a socialist is pretty extreme also.

Someone trots out that garbage obviously has no conception of what its like to live under a socialist regime. If they did they wouldn't throw around the label so readily.

I have to say, that this idea that any president can be responsible for more than changes in 'tone' of government somewhat shocks me. This investment in what one man can achieve seems to suggest that there is an imbalance in your (the US) governmental system.

Huh. Change "Obama" to "Bush," and this could be an exact quote for Bush right after 9/11. I think you and others forget how much ####### "liberals" took for any criticism of Bush just a few short years ago, and how much adulation and fawning over he was subjected to. It could also apply to Reagan, who has become a cult icon within the Republican party.

I am finding more and more folks who look at Obama this way are normally predjudice and have issues with anyone who is not white being in office...sad but true. I do not CARE who is in the office as long as he is FOR THE PEOPLE and not against them like Bush and the good patrol were

The last 8 years have been good for me in term of earning money.

Bush helped lower my property taxes in Texas while he was governer, and while he was in office as President It has been pretty darn good times financially for me, kinda what I would call the "American Dream"

well thats awesome for you but for millions of others their dream was crapped on..NOW we are in a recession because of it. Those who made a certain income were helped durring his loving term and those who were BELOW the certain income seemed to get bit in the butt. I took on 2 jobs and about killed myself WHILE going to school and finishing it.

I think it is GREAT you got your DREAM but do you not think it is selfish in thinking NOT to think about those millions who got crapped on??? These days it is hard to find work due to his failed presidency of 8 years. Many are getting laid off and those who HAD the American dream are now trying to seek unemployment. Even those who were with companies 10 or more years who THINK they are safe are not safe.

I feel SORRY for our New president because now he and his new cabinet have to clean up all the garbage that bush and his goons made.

To me the American dream includes EVERYONE not just the middle class rich folk in it.

The American dream was first written about by a man named James Truslow Adams. He gave the TRUE meaning of what the American Dream was to be and that is:

"The American Dream is "that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement. It is a difficult dream for the European upper classes to interpret adequately, and too many of us ourselves have grown weary and mistrustful of it. It is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position."

Somehow along the way, The American Dream was twisted around and become SELFISH by many people.

I will go With Mr. Adams what the true meaning of the American Dream is suppose to be, anyday over the selfish way of thinking that most Americans were trained to think and became selfish to think it.

BUT I hope one day every American can live the dream that he had dreamed form and Martin luther Kings I have a dream is another great example of what the TRUE american dream really is. Both are not selfish in thinking and I can honestly say I am a thinker like them.

But good on you for being able to be selfish enough to have your dream..thats AWESOME mate!
