Has anyone gone to apply for a social security number? We should be getting a work permit soon. Our I94 was mutilated in the wash and a new one costs near $300. The directions say you need an I94 card but I'd like to hear what experiences any of you have had

If you plan to apply based on K-1 status, yes you must have the I-94. I'm not even going to ask how the I-94 got from the passport to the washing machine. LOL

Some of us have no choice but to remove the I-94 from the passport. The CBP guy at Chicago (who was otherwise brilliant) stapled my I-94 on top of my visa, literally. He put the staple right through the very centre of the I-94 and the visa page. So there was only one way to photocopy the visa page for the I-485...

Yeah, but I don't recall anything on the card or from the immigration officer about please wash if removed from passport. LOL

Well no but once it's detached from the passport, these things are going to happen occasionally, I suppose. I've certainly washed my share of important documents over the years (bank cards don't work after a spin cycle for some reason :lol:)
