California Center is a lot faster, they approve within 3-4 months. But even if you're not approved before your trip, I'm assuming that you received your NOA which extends your GreenCard for one more year, so just travel with your expired GC and this NOA extension and you'll be fine.

Hi Everyone,

Yes, it is common to wait for I-751 approvals as follows:

-If you filed at the Vermont Service Center/VSC (aka "Very Slow Center"),

expect to wait: 10-12 months on average

-If you filed at the California Service Center/CSC,

expect to wait: 3-4 months on average

Why the big difference between the two centers, who knows...doesn't seem fair though...

And if your I-751 case is out of these average processing timelines, then do schedule an infopass appointment at your local center as soon as possible, to inquire further about your case.

Meanwhile, while your I-751 case is processing, make sure you carry your 2yr expired green card and your 1 year NOA extension letter and/or your I-551 stamp in your passport. You should be ok for travel and for employment purposes with these documents.

By the way to the OP (donutconnection): Feel free to add your name and I-751 information to the following "VSC I-751 Status List", as that's helpful for everyone here on VJ too. Thanks.:

If you don't receive a NOA, you can always make a Info-Pass appointment at your local field office and go and get your passport stamped. I had to do that once before when my Green Card was delayed (Apparently lost in mail) I just made a appointment, talked to a really nice guy at the office and he stamped my passport and said it was good for 6 months.
