I submitted my paperwork in October of 2008 to have my condition removed from my Green Card and i rec'd a letter from USCIS stating that my status as been extended for 12 months until they process my paperwork and issue the new card. Since then i have done the biometrics. Now i am wondering if it would be ok for me to travel oversea with this letter showing that my status is extended.

yes, carry the extention letter along with your expired GC when you travel

I feel a bit nervous traveling with my expired gc and this entension letter. I fear that when i try to re-enter the USA the immigration may give me a hard time

You won't have any problems at the port of entry in the US with the extension letter. I travelled twice overseas this year with such letter. No problem at all.

The only problem I had was at the arline checking counter abroad when I was returning to the US. The clerk seemed not to be familiar with this letter (she didn't even read or speak English very well) so she had to be assisted by her supervisor. That took them a few minutes. But everything went ok.

Zero stress. Have a nice trip!!
