USCIS claims to be working on petitions received March 7, 2008 but the date is really there just to protect them from those still waiting for an approval. In other words, you really can't complain about your petition taking so long until your submission date is well past the date they list. ;)

When checking the timeline in USCIS for I-129F, the date show as March 07,2008. What does this date mean?

Thanks

This means, as of September 30 2008, they are currently processing petitions dated from March 07 2008.

So, for all you folks going through the VSC, I have a question...and honestly, I'm a little scared to hear the answer.

I'm submitting my I-129F tomorrow (fedex-ing it), but from what I'm seeing (and I wish I knew this earlier), the VSC runs pretty slow. Do I have ANY hope at all of having my fiance's visa approved so that we can get married in October 2009, or should I start breaking it to my family that we're going to have to change the wedding date?

Our Timeline

11/2001 - met online

6/2006 - first face-to-face meeting (he's been over 7 times total since then).

1/26/09 - filed I-129F with VSC

1/30/09 - NOA1 hardcopy rec'd

1/31/09 - touched

4/29/09 - NOA2 email rec'd from CRIS! YIPPEE!!

5/12/09 - Mark rec'd Packet 3

5/29/09 - returned packet 3

7/12/09 - resubmitted packet 3 after being told for weeks that it was never rec'd

8/19/09 - interview scheduled for 9/11/09! Medical moved to 9/10/09.

9/10/09 - medical - passed

9/11/09 - interview - approved pending embassy receipt of medical results!!!!!!! Hard to believe it's finally done!!

10/2/09 - POE: Logan Airport in Boston, MA. Absolutely no problems, aside from the customs official not knowing what to do with the visa and having to find someone to help.

10/10/09 - Married!! :D :D :D

12/7/09 - SSN received in the mail - that was fast!

you might want to break the news to them, average time takes 4-6 months but there could be hold ups to make it even longer...

It's important to keep in mind that processing times change ALL the time. For instance, a year ago, VSC was processing petitions in less than a month's time while CSC was still trying to recover from the backlog caused by the fee increase the previous year.

How long it takes to process your petition depends very much on the adjuticator handling your case and/or security checks that can hold you up at any stage, even if you think there is nothing to hold you up. ;)

How long your interview will take is very much dependant on the Embassy you are dealing with. You can check the Embassy info/reviews link above to find out the average for the Embassy your fiance will interview with.

Most will advise you not to plan or pay for anything in advance as this process can throw you for a loop at any point.

good luck.

We're going on 14 months and just now getting to final stages. I used to watch the timelines and try to estimate when we would be together. Don't do it! It is like watching the clock, time passes even slower. If you're # comes up early, feel blessed, but I would not make any plans.
