ok, so going back to the topic.

The buddy system might be good at first blush, but really what makes this forum amazingly useful is the ability to put a question out there, and get lots of answers back. As mentioned before, people giving info they think is correct, may not be, and the info is not open for others to correct.

I am a staunch supporter of the regional forums. I think that it invaluable to have people with similar frames of reference going through the same thing. There are a lot of issues like local documents that are specific to countries etc.

In the same spirit, threads or subforums for the places in the US that people actually move to, or live in might be helpful for local info and support on moving, finding a job, and settling in. Thoughts?

You know what I don't understand about all this advocacy of the Regional Forums as a place for 'important information' about the different local documents, etc?

Does anybody actually use the Embassy Info link underneath the Happy Couples? IMO that is the place where consular specific advice belongs.

Maybe the problem is nobody updates that area. Or that everybody think the info belongs in Regionals.

I dunno.

Not sure if it was you...can't take the pains of going back through the thread...but somebody mentioned the word "clutter" very early on.

As you note here, perhaps there are some forums which either have out-lived their usefulness, or aren't labeled/arranged in as efficient a manner as possible.

I'm not saying we need a site overhaul, but there absolutely appears to be an argument for maintenance and updates.

Have you looked at that area? I don't call it 'clutter' if you have all the information including the consulates phone numbers, web addresses, etc in one place instead of having to dig through threads looking for something that is 'oh so important'.

If you had been around here a little longer, Ling Ling, you'd know that the problem isn't that we need new areas to dig through for advice. We need the original areas be kept up to date, and we need them to be easy to find. I think Ewok is starting to realize that he's laid around on his rear too long around here because I've seen some recent housekeeping.

I wouldn't say 'laid around on his rear' (I know you mean it in an affectionate way) but I think the reality is that he's only one man. No matter how passionate about this,

he's still got his own life to live outside VJ. I know there's moderators, and organizers, but are there any volunteers dedicated to specific forums?

I think it would be good to have teams dedicated to the maintenance of specific forums.

As for the dissemination of important information, I think that forums are the wrong place for that. I think the Wiki needs to be utilized more. The fact being,

forums retain static information which is quickly outdated, and can lead to errors. When accessing the Wiki, you're sure to have only the most current version of information.

I still hold fast, and feel validated in that Capt. Ewok and others have expressed concern and interest, that we do in fact need to from time to time create new forums that meet the needs of immigrating families.

Moderators for different forums!

Hey, now that's a novel idea!

Not gonna happen.

It should happen.

I know it should. But it's been talked about before and it never does.

I don't think the Captain like to give up any real control around here.

Sorry about that, but it's my honest opinion.

Hey, at least you're not disrespecting a moderator. That can get you a 24 hour suspension these days! The demi-gods may not be insulted.

Funny that, you know.

How trying to have an adult conversation out in the open with somebody, rather than closed door PM's with someone who has the upper hand, can be considered disrespect - no?

It's the equivalent of the President telling citizens that all dissent must be expressed in private. Public dissent will result in punitive measures.

Kinda like that, yeah.

I believe in the concept of moderators. But I think they need real power and real support by Admin. I think you need different Mods with different proven levels of expertise patrolling different forums.

And I don't think a Mod should expect me to take a conversation with them to Private. That's a sledgehammer approach and I won't do it.

Oh - and while I'm on a tear, I don't think we need to make this place more complicated by adding more places to have to hunt for facts. I'm an Administrative Assistant by profession. We don't make our bread and butter by making it harder to find what we need to make our bosses happy. The KISS concept applies.

Let's all make VJ as big a beuruacracy as USCIS.

Seems rather stupid, doesn't it?

umm....rebeccajo sounds like a redneck's name. Billy Bob married her.

Nope.

My parents named me Rebecca JoAnn.

Rebecca for my grandmother and JoAnn because I guess it sounded good.

As a child I was called 'Becky Jo' and that is still what my family calls me.

My husband calls me Rebecca - most others call me Becca.

And his name is Robert Wesley. After his uncle Robert and John Wesley, the famous protestant.

He can trace his lineage to a Lord during mideval times in Ireland. I can trace mine to the American Revolution.

I only eat possum on days that end in "Y", I disdain the wearing of shoes, and I'm late getting down to DHHR to get my foodstamps renewed for January.

Firstly, you dont know me from anywhere, secondly i agree with him bc HE makes sense. Third, i think your only arguing with me now for the sake of wanting to argue. All i have to say is grow up, there are ppl that will agree with you and ppl who wont, the sooner you accept that, the better off you will be.

He made sense to YOU, when you THOUGHT he was advocating a buddy system for immigration, or when he EXPLAINED that it was for non-immigration?

How are those soup sandwiches coming along?

Damnit...somebody close this thread...it's circling the drain thanks to the hator-aid.

umm....rebeccajo sounds like a redneck's name. Billy Bob married her.

Personal attacks are against the TOS...i think you need to go back and read it again

Maybe not a nice observation via humor, but I wouldn't call it a personal attack.

Ling Ling - all I'm saying to you is that if you have really done that much good around here, then the good will follow you without advertising it.

Cute name, that. No offense intended. Who was your patriot ancestor>
