what does touched mean on your timelines im reading on here and how do you see that on mine?

When a petition is received by USCIS, it gets a bar code which is used for tracking. Any time your bar code is wanded (scanned) it is recorded as what we call a touch. If you create a portfolio on the USCIS web site - you'll be able to see a field called Last Updated which will be a date - any time this date changes, you've been 'touched.' There is no record of previous touches so you'll just have to pay attention when it changes.

Do touches mean anything? Not really - just that someone did something to your file (ie, moved it, looked at it, counted it or the like). Some folks get lots of touches while others get none until the all important one in which they get approved.

Hope this helps..

how do you make a profile ? we have been just entering the number they gave us to check on progress is that the same?

Go to the USCIS and you can check your progress using the "Check Case Status" dialog box.

You can also sign up for an account with them, Case Status Online

Make sure you pick "Email on" when you get login, you will then you get auto updates!

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS
