Hi folks,

What happens if you cant find your immunization records?? My old doctor no longer has my chart from when I was a child, since its been 10 years since Ive been to see him. Im missing all my dates from birth until 20 years old (Im 26 now).

not unless you go to public health to get them done... but most people go to their Family Physician , who is legally abliged to keep your medical records for 10 years after since seeing you last. And the last time my childhood doctor saw me, I was about 14 years old. So the files are gone. :( All I got was from the time I was 21 till now

if you cannot find your records then you have but a few choices....

1) have them redone

2) have some of the the tests that determine health history (ie.. titer).... and have the others redone...

I am not sure which one is the most painless......

YMMV

If you've exhausted all possible places where you could find a record of immunizations, go to your doctor or medical clinic and request a titer test. This will examine your blood for the required anti-bodies. You may need boosters if your anti-body count is low for any of the diseases. You don't need to test for varicella (chickenpox) if you know you've contracted the disease earlier in your life. Oral confirmation is accepted.

Bring the results of this test with you to examination with a panel doctor. This is proof of immunity and is cheap. You could also go to your doctor and convince him/her to write a letter that states you've received your vaccinations as a kid without actual proof. for some reason, Canadian doctors' are easily persuaded. You've paid taxes and have invested in your province's health care all your life, try adn get the most out of the system while you can.

also, why did you post this in the AOS section? For future reference, the K-1 forum, or even the canadian forum found in the regional section will provide a much more knowledgeable audience.

:)

Good luck.

Doctors/nurses will not allow vaccinations to be redone if there's a chance you've previously received them. They will likely administer a titer. They simply take a sample of your blood. easy.

The question came from a member who is from Canada. It was from those two forums where I received most of my information. As a fellow Canadian, I was simply recommending where he/she should look for future answers.
